[Termes IGN] incendieRésumé : (Auteur) Visual condition survey and inspection is typically the initial method employed in the assessment of concrete damaged by fire, and it is among the most significant non-destructive testing methods. In spite of visual inspection being simple in principle, it is capable of providing cardinal information about the condition of the fire-damaged structure and act as a basis upon which subsequent and detailed assessment methods can be founded. When concrete is exposed to various elevated temperatures, it undergoes change in its physical characteristics among others, and indicators such as change in surface texture, cracks, spalling and colour change become evident. These indicators of fire-damaged concrete can be assessed using visual inspection methods and further assessed with more advanced methods in a case where detailed investigations are needed. In this study, visual inspection of terrestrial laser scanner data of fire-damaged concrete was investigated by modelling and analysing laser intensity. An analysis of the generated intensity images from laser intensity data has proved useful and valuable in the visual inspection of concrete before and after heating. Furthermore, laser scanner geometric data has been used in the assessment of concrete surface roughness before and after heating. [Termes IGN] traitement de semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Change detection and deformation monitoring is an active area of research within the field of engineering surveying and other overlapping areas such as structural and civil engineering. This paper reviews the application of terrestrial laser scanning in the monitoring of structures and discusses registration and georeferencing of scan data. Past terrestrial laser scanning research work has shown trends in addressing issues such as accurate registration and georeferencing of scans, error modelling, point cloud processing techniques for deformation analysis, scanner calibration and detection of millimetre deformations. However, several issues are still open to investigation such as robust methods of point cloud processing for detecting change and deformation, incorporation of measurement geometry in deformation measurements, design of data acquisition and quality assessment for precise measurements and modelling the environmental effects on the performance of laser scanning. A three-stage process model for deformation analysis is proposed as conceptualised from the material reviewed. [Termes IGN] WiFiRésumé : (Auteur) Locata is a new positioning technology developed by the Locata Corporation. At the beginning of 2007, the Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy (IESSG) bought and received a network of Locata transceivers with two rovers. The purpose is to solve the challenges identified when surveying in dense multipath areas (i.e. urban canyons). In this paper, the technology is tested in an urban canyon scenario on the University park at the University of Nottingham. By comparing Locata position solutions with the true positions calculated with a total station and a carrier-phase GPS, the results show that centimetre-level accuracy is achievable in difficult environments in the presence of Wi-Fi signals. The rover’s estimated coordinates may diverge in some cases. Finally, a comparison study shows that Real Time Kinematic GPS and Locata technologies have similar accuracy when both are available.
