[Termes IGN] ontologieRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes an approach for automatically combining geospatial and temporal ontologies such that a geospatial domain can be analyzed over multiple temporal granularities. Terms from a geospatial ontology are combined with terms from a temporal ontology to form cross products that provide an integrated spatiotemporal framework. This framework is multi-granular, highlighting elements from the geospatial ontology at different domain times. We show how pairs of ontologies represented in Protégé can be used as the input for deriving cross products and how the results of this technique can be used as a basis for querying and retrieving new perspectives on geospatial domains. Visualizations of cross product spaces highlight the geospatial–temporal combinations of terms as well as the different relations that link these terms and improve the understanding of the structure of the spatiotemporal framework. Methods for filtering terms from the cross products are also investigated in order to prune the resulting frameworks and remove irrelevant or unnecessary terms. [Termes IGN] réseau routierRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a basic set of motion relations capturing specific prototypical movements of vehicles on US road networks are introduced. Vehicle positional data collected from a geosensor network and stored in a spatio-temporal database serve as the basis for computing the relations that include isBehind, inFrontOf, driveBeside, and passBy. Relational SQL queries are used to derive the relations, returning information about pairs of moving objects and their relative positions. This information provides additional user contexts for binary vehicle patterns relative to a reference object. A framework for the kinds of moving objects that participate in these relations is supplied through an associated TransportationDevice ontology. Depending on the class of moving object, a relation such as isBehind captures scenarios that are facilitating or inhibiting with respect to the movement of traffic. For example, if a police car is known to be behind an automobile, the automobile typically slows to correspond with the legal speed limit. In this work, we show how linking the spatio-temporal database to an ontology can augment and extend the motion relation information, providing multi-granular perspectives of moving vehicles. [Termes IGN] jointure spatialeRésumé : (Auteur) This volume contains updated versions of the ten papers presented at the First International Workshop on Temporal, Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Data Mining (TSDM 2000) held in conjunction with the 4th European Conference on Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (PKDD 2000) in Lyons, France in September, 2000. The aim of the workshop was to bring together experts in the analysis of temporal and spatial data mining and knowledge discovery in temporal, spatial or spatio-temporal database systems as well as knowledge engineers and domain experts from allied disciplines. The workshop focused on research and practice of knowledge discovery from datasets containing explicit or implicit temporal, spatial or spatio-temporal information. The ten original papers in this volume represent those accepted by peer review following an international call for papers. All papers submitted were refereed by an international team of data mining researchers listed below. We would like to thank the team for their expert and useful help with this process. Following the workshop, authors were invited to amend their papers to enable the feedback received from the conference to be included in the final papers appearing in this volume. A workshop report was compiled by Kathleen Hornsby which also discusses the panel session that was held. In late 1998, a bibliography of temporal, spatial and spatio-temporal data mining research papers was compiled by John Roddick and Myra Spiliopoulou and published in SigKDD Explorations. Following the dramatic increase in interest in this area over the past few years, it was decided that an update to this bibliography was warranted and should be included in this volume. It is our contention that temporal, spatial and spatio-temporal data mining holds many promises. We hope this volume, as well as the TSDM Workshop series, is useful in adding to the body of knowledge in this area.
