[Termes IGN] téléphonie mobileRésumé : (auteur) Digital billboards, as a new form of outdoor advertising, has gained popularity in recent years per its revolutionized way to control when and where the specific ads appear. However, this development also demands more complicated optimization for strategic deployments: the advertisers have to not only decide on a set of locations to display their ads, but also when to display them. The existing static optimization approaches become insufficient for this dynamic scenario to match advertisement and intended audience. Therefore, this research proposes three models in a workflow to mine mobile phone data and points of interest (POIs) data and to meet advertising needs in various situations. The three optimization models include a dynamic audience model to maximize the coverage of the target users, a dynamic environment model to maximize the coverage of the target environment, and a dynamic integrated model to maximize the coverage of both target audience and environment. A case study using shopping ads in Wuxue, China tests the three optimalization models. The results show that the proposed models are effective for providing an optimal solution for digital billboard configuration with a greater coverage of the target audience and environment compared to the state-of-the-art static models. [Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (auteur) Geological maps are an important information source used in the support of activities relating to mining, earth resources, hazards, and environmental studies. Owing to the complexity of this particular map type, the process of geological map generalization has not been comprehensively addressed, and thus a complete automated system for geological map generalization is not yet available. In particular, while in other areas of map generalization constraint-based techniques have become the prevailing approach in the past two decades, generalization methods for geological maps have rarely adopted this approach. This paper seeks to fill this gap by presenting a methodology for the automation of geological map generalization that builds on size constraints (i.e., constraints that deal with the minimum area and distance relations in individual or pairs of map features). The methodology starts by modeling relevant size constraints and then uses a workflow consisting of generalization operators that respond to violations of size constraints (elimination/selection, enlargement, aggregation, and displacement) as well as algorithms to implement these operators. We show that the automation of geological map generalization is possible using constraint-based modeling, leading to improved process control compared to current approaches. However, we also show the limitations of an approach that is solely based on size constraints and identify extensions for a more complete workflow. In the literature on real-time map generalisation, however, corresponding methods that resolve cartographic conflicts by deformation of the underlying map space together with the map foreground, are underrepresented. This paper demonstrates how the concept of a malleable space can be applied as a part of the generalisation process and incorporated into the overall methodology of point generalisation. Two different algorithms are used, a density-equalising cartogram algorithm and Laplacian smoothing. Both methods work in real-time and are datadriven. In addition, they allow for a parameterisation in combi-nation with a quadtree data structure, as well as a combination with 'classic' generalisation operators (e.g. selection, aggregation, displacement) based on the quadtree. The quadtree serves both as a spatial index for fast retrieval and search of points, and as a density estimator to inform generalisation operators. The use of the quadtree as a common spatial index provides a tool to combine variable-scale maps with classic generalisation. A combination of the two allows, at small map scales, the maintenance of detail in dense areas and data reduction in sparse areas. Additionally, it facilitates building a modular workflow for real-time map generalisation. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) This article reports on a study performed to understand the geographic and linguistic coverage of web resources, focusing on the example of tourism-related themes in Switzerland. Search engine queries of web documents were used to gather counts for phrases in four different languages. The study focused on selected populated places and tourist attractions in Switzerland from three gazetteer datasets: topographic gazetteer data from the Swiss national mapping agency (SwissTopo); POI data from a commercial data provider (Tele Atlas) and user generated geographic content (geonames.org). The web counts illustrate the geographic extent and trends of web coverage of tourism for different languages. Results show that coverage for local languages, i.e. German, French and Italian, is more strongly related to the region of the spoken language. Correlation of the web counts to typical tourism indicators, e.g. population and number of hotel nights rented per year, are also computed and compared.
