[Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) 3D-city models are becoming an important tool for town planning. Photogrammetry appears to provide the only economic means to acquire truly 3D city data. The paper discusses the current status of automatic and semiautomatic acquisition method. Research in automatic methods for building extraction being increasingly intensive in the last few years, has lead to promising results, however, still lacks the performance needed for practical applications. Semiautomatic acquisition methods rely on the ability of the operator to intelligently interpret and select the required information and appear to be ripe for practical implementation. [Termes IGN] marché de l'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The advances in sensor technology allow digital cameras to be used more and more also for aerial photography, applications, but they will not meet all requirements of the aerial mapping cameras in use today in the foreseeable future. The launching of high-resolution earth observation satellites and new commercial fields of application both in photogrammetry and remote sensing will alter the market for aerial imagery significantly. In the beginning digital airborne cameras will be used in these new applications and in addition in big application areas of the analog aerial mapping cameras respectively satellite photos. This paper describes fields of application and market demands for future digital airborne cameras. [Termes IGN] processusRésumé : (Auteur) IGN introduced a new semi automated tool for cartographic contour line generation at the beginning of the year 1999. After six months experience in the three digital units involved in this evolution, new requirements appear concerning large data flow management, increased reliability for the existing functionalities and new interactive tools to improve manual editing. [Termes IGN] système de numérisation mobileRésumé : (Auteur) The rapid technological developments of the 90's have completely redefined the mapping practice as a whole. In less than a decade, digital techniques have come to outnumber the traditionally analog data acquisition and processing methods. Supported by unprecedented demand for large-volume, accurate spatial data, these new digital techniques emerged as dominant mapping technologies by the end of the decade. Technological change has also recently reached the analog camera-based aerial surveying practice, which supplies about two-thirds of spatial data for mapping and was the last stronghold of analog techniques. Two key components of this emerging technology are the electronic sensor-based digital camera and GPS/INS-based direct platform orientation. In fact, these new platform orientation systems are rapidly becoming a core component of modern airborne mapping and remote sensing systems.
This paper investigates the calibration and performance validation aspects of a GPS/INS/CM prototype system, including the digital camera calibration and the boresighting misalignment calibration of the positioning component. The calibration performance of the system is evaluated based on data collected during several test flights.
