Thus, when asked by the publishers to contribute a review based on my visit to INTERGEO, it seemed best instead to concentrate on a single well-defined area where a lot of activity was taking place at the fair. The most obvious area for someone with my interests was airborne laser scanning. Here quite a number of interesting new products and technical developments were to be seen, together with the provision of growing number of related services. So I have tried to review this particular area under two main headings - (i) system suppliers ; and (ii) service providers. [Termes IGN] stéréoscopieRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper a major improvement of the generic rigorous sensor model for along track stereo optical satellite sensors which has been developed at UCL over the last three years is introduced, in detail. This improved model is implemented for satellite images where information of the orbit (state vectors) of the acquired satellite is provided, as is usual nowadays. The main achievement is that the precision of the solution is improved along with the accuracy, as the correlation between the exterior parameters is dramatically eliminated. Moreover, it is possible to carry out self calibration without correlation of the exterior orientation parameters with the interior orientation parameters (even for the calculation of the focal length). This model can be solved directly if the attitude information needed for a photogrammetric solution is given or after a calibration process using a small number of GCPs, in order to calculate missing information. The model is evaluated using SPOT5-HRS imagery. This paper describes a new method for automatic camera calibration, which is suited to colour digital cameras. Two innovations are central to the developed process. The first is exploitation of RGB colour attributes in the design of automatically detected and identified coded targets. The second is a new approach to initial value determination for relative orientation, which then supports fully automatic initial network exterior orientation and subsequent bundle adjustment with self-calibration. Accuracy aspects are also touched upon and the impact of chromatic aberration is discussed. Finally, an example of the automatic calibration process, which is implemented in the iWitness system, is presented for the case of multiple zoom settings of a consumer-grade digital camera. [Termes IGN] satellite agileRésumé : (Auteur) The Pleiades-HR system, of which the first platform of the constellation shall be ready for launch by early 2009, is the next generation of high resolution optical sensor satellites developed by CNES, the French space agency. With its ability to provide photogrammetrists with instantaneous colour image stereo-pairs of 20km swath and 70cm resolution acquired with B/H ratios ranging from 0.15 to 2, the very agile and precisely pointing Pleiades platforms should open in many countries a new era for the updating of high scale maps, by probably avoiding heavy aerial survey campaigns in many cases. In the framework of a cooperation agreement between CNES and IGN-France, designed to prepare an operational use of these images, several experimentations and simulations are being carried out, in order to verify the ability of the system to fulfil the technical and operational requirements of the map-making processes, in comparison with those presently based on digital aerial photography. Among others, present studies particularly focus on : 1- the geometric and radiometric quality assessment of the planned system products (sensor level, orthoimages and mosaics) ; 2- the capacity assessment of the Pleiades-HR constellation to meet the IGN-F cartographic mission needs in terms of image volume for the coverage of the national territory, whether in monoscopic or stereoscopic mode. After an overview of the main characteristics of the Pleiades-HR system, the paper aims at presenting the first results of these studies, which will be of great importance, together with the economic side, in the decision process of IGN-France to transfer, or not, part of the supplying of fresh images from the aerial source to the satellite source.
