[Termes IGN] propagation ionosphériqueRésumé : (Auteur) There has been an increasing interest in the use of spaceborne very high frequency ultra high frequency (VHFUHF) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for measuring forest biomass and for detecting underground facilities. The propagation characseristics of the lowfrequency electromagnetic wave are severely affected by the ionosphere. Recently, Faraday rotation effects and SAR image degradation have been studied using an analytical model and a homogeneous ionosphere. In this paper, a numerical model is developed to investigate the SAR image degradation caused by an inhomogeneous ionosphere. Both horizontal and a vertical structures of the ionosphere are considered in this model. Three different cases are studied. The first is a vertically homogemous ionosphere, where the simulation condition is the same as in the analytical study by Ishimaru and others. The second is a vertical profile, which is introduced using the Chapman formula. The raybending effect is added for the ionosphere with a layered structure. Finally, both the vertical profile in electron density and the horizontal gradient in total electron content are considered b the simulation. Simulation results show good agreement with the theoretical analysis under the same conditions of the ionosphere. When both horizontal and vertical structures and the inhomogeneity of the ionosphere are considered in the model, the simulation result shows further image degradation and shift caused by the raybending effect. The simulation results also show the strong frequency dependence of the SAR image resolution. [Termes IGN] transmission de donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Project FiRE (First Response Experiment), a disaster management technology demonstration, was performed in 2001. The experiment demonstrated the use of a thermal multispectral scanning imager, integrated on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a satellite uplink/downlink image data telemetry system, and nearrealtime georectification of the resultant imagery for data distribution via the Internet to disaster managers. The FiRE demonstration provided geocorrected image data over a controlled burn to a fire management community in nearrealtime by means of the melding of new technologies. The use of the UAV demonstrated remotely piloted flight (thereby reducing the potential for loss of human life during hazardous missions), and the ability to "linger and stare " over the fire for extended periods of time (beyond the capabilities of humanpilot endurance). Improvements in a high temperature calibrated thermal imaging scanner allowed "remote" operations from a UAV and provided realtime accurate fire information collection over a controlled burn. Improved bitrate capacity telemetry capabilities increased the amount, structure, and information content of the image data relayed to the ground. The integration of precision navigation instrumentation allowed improved accuracies in georectification of the resultant imagery, easing data ingestion and overlay in a GIS framework. We present a discussion of the feasibility of utilizing new platforms, improved sensor configurations, improved telemetry, and new geocorrection software to facilitate wildfire management and mitigation strategies. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Recent camera technology provides new solutions for high-resolution image acquisition. These cameras are based on large CCD-matrices as well as CCD-line sensors and fulfill both : large field of view and high spatial resolution. Single -or multi-line cameras have been designed for spaceborne, airborne and terrestrial scanners to provide high-resolution wide angle or even panoramic imagery. Such cameras allow new approaches of 3D scene visualization/reconstruction and new applications in airborne and close range photogrammetry. This has influences on camera design and development, calibration, image acquisition and data processing.
