[Termes IGN] stéréoscopieRésumé : (Auteur) We formulate and present a new geopositioning method for SPOT-5 High-Resolution Geometric (HRG) stereo images, named the line-of-sight (LOS) vector adjustment model. It is applicable to satellites that move along a well-defined close-to-circular elliptical orbit with a predicted orbit close to true. SPOT-5 satisfies these requirements because it has the improved capability of providing accurate satellite attitude and a look angle for each detector. The method’s core idea is that only the LOS vector was adjusted when correcting the geometric distortion of SPOT-5 imagery. One advantage of this method is that it achieves high geopositioning accuracy with a limited number of ground control points (GCPs). Although a minimum of three GCPs is needed for processing, a test result satisfied the accuracy requirement within one pixel of a SPOT-5 panchromatic image even with only three GCPs. The performance in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) improved as the number of GCPs increased. Five GCPs were found to be the optimal number in the practical application of the LOS vector adjustment model. Using five GCPs, the RMSEs were 0.48 m and 0.64 m in planimetry and height, respectively. The test results indicate that the proposed method is superior to the bundle adjustment method for the geopositioning of SPOT-5 HRG stereo images. [Termes IGN] visualisation simultanéeRésumé : (Auteur) This paper discusses the evaluation of a video stereo-image capture tool for photogrammetric applications. The ‘‘NuView Adapter’’, a commonly available video-image splitting device, and a digital video camera (DV) could be used to capture stereoscopic video footage for many photogrammetric applications in which low-cost near-simultaneous stereo-images are required for 3D viewing or for 3D spatial data capture. Relevant photogrammetric applications might include: aerial surveillance, human/animal motion study (tracking), bank/security surveillance and precise 3D animation. The device permits two distinct views (left and right perspective views) to enter a single lens DV. A single convergence control in the device allows the user to obtain a stereo view of near and far objects. The system is easy to operate and the stereo-images give a good visual 3D effect. Research was carried out to determine the quality of the stereo-image for 3D measurement. The investigation involved: (1) the calibration of a customised system for optimum close range photogrammetric application; and (2) a case study involving motion tracking. A semi-automated monodigitising photogrammetric technique was used to determine the accuracy of the system. The results show that this system could achieve a spatial data accuracy of better than 13 mm at an object distance of 9 m. The horizontal and vertical accuracies are similar to those obtained by the conventional stereoscopic camera technique using a ‘‘normal case’’ configuration with 86% overlap. [Termes IGN] orientation du capteurRésumé : (Auteur) This paper investigates the feasibility of modelling entire image strips, instead of individual scenes, that have been acquired from the same orbital pass through bundle adjustments. The focus differs from previous researches in the following aspects: firstly, in modelling image strips when control points are available only on a small portion of the strips and, secondly, in comparing the performance of two types of physical sensor models with various sets of adjustment parameters. The models tested were based on modified collinear equations and on satellite orbit and attitude. For each model seven adjustment parameter sets were defined and checked against two SPOT 3 strips of 420 km in length. Results showed that the accuracy of orbit modelling is highly dependent on the choice of parameters to be adjusted. Models with high-order parameters showed exponential error patterns whereas models with low-order parameters showed linear error patterns. Among the two types of sensor models, those based on satellite orbit and attitude yielded better orbit modelling performance. In particular, the best performance was achieved by the model that adjusts attitude biases only; a nearly constant accuracy of better than 2 pixels was maintained over the whole orbital segment of 420 km. This supports the feasibility of orbit modelling.
