[Termes IGN] orthoimage intégraleRésumé : (Auteur) True ortho-images are generated from perspective images with both object and terrain displacement distortion corrected and with occlusions removed. However, widely used algorithms based on a Z-buffer have drawbacks and may result in artefacts in the generated ortho-images. This paper analyses the artefacts induced by Z-buffer algorithms in true ortho-image generation, and proposes a vector-based method to avoid algorithm-induced artefacts. The proposed method treats a perspective image pixel as a square patch instead of an image pixel point, and generates ortho-images in the vector domain. Under the vector implementation, occlusion detection is a simple process, and image resampling becomes a straightforward procedure. Most importantly, this method can minimise artefacts in the ortho-images so generated. [Termes IGN] fil à plombRésumé : (Auteur) Radial and decentring distortion parameters have long been reported as fundamental elements in camera calibration, especially in digital close range photogrammetry. This paper reports on an investigation for the determination of both radial and decentring distortion parameters using analytical plumb-line calibration. Straight line patterns, ranging from 1, 2, 4, 10 and up to 20 lines, not strictly plumb, are examined on a set of distorted imagery. Additionally, not only the number of straight lines but also the linear image distribution is analysed. For that purpose, linear features have been distributed in different positions and orientations over the whole of the imagery. Furthermore, the relationship between the parameters mentioned and the location of the principal point is also analysed, and shows how sensitive they are to deviations from the centre of the sensor. The motivation for this paper is the measurement of the minimum number of linear features for proper calibration of non-metric digital cameras. Both radial and decentring distortion parameters are examined. Finally, some line patterns are recommended for making the plumb-line calibration technique a reliable, easy and fast procedure. Photogrammetrists could use it as a first step in the procedure of camera calibration; users who are not experts in photogrammetry could employ it as a final step. It has five visible to near-infrared light sensitive cameras, one near-infrared to mid-infrared light sensitive camera, a monitor, a computer with a multichannel digitizing board, a keyboard, a power distributor, an amplifier, and a mouse. Each camera is fitted with a narrowband interference filter, allowing the system to obtain imagery in the blue (447 - 455 nm), green (555 - 565 nm), red (625 - 635 nm), red edge (704 - 716 nm), near-infrared (814-826 nm), and mid-infrared (1631 - 1676 nm) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Analogue video acquired by this system is converted to digital format. Radiometric resolution of the imagery is 8-bit (pixel values range 0 - 255). Images obtained by the system can be evaluated individually and/or in combination with each other to assess natural resources. [Termes IGN] Tsinghua (microsatellite)Résumé : (Auteur) By far the biggest source of the data needed for geospatial intelligence purposes comes from the high resolution imagery acquired from spaceborne and airborne platforms. In the specific context of South and East Asia, where there are numerous concerns about national security and threats from neighbours, the primary source for this type of intelligence is spaceborne imagery. Indeed the defence and security agencies in the larger countries in this part of Asia have all been large consumers of the high-resolution space imagery provided, by commercial suppliers such as GeoEye, DigitalGlobe, SPOT Image and ImageSat International. However, recently, nearly all of these Asian countries have either acquired or they are creating their own national capabilities to acquire this type of imagery to overcome the actual or potential restrictions and the delays that occur with the supply of space imagery from sources out with their control. The situation has already been discussed in a preliminary manner in an article published in Geolnformatics by the present writer three years ago (in the March 2004 issue) as part of his world wide survey of high-resolution imaging from space. This new article will concentrate on the many new developments that have taken place in the region since then.
