[Termes IGN] Multi-Angle Imaging SpectroradiometerRésumé : (Auteur) This paper focuses on the validation aspect of the geometric calibration approach as implemented for the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR), a part of the payload for NASA's Terra spacecraft. The MISR instrument, launched in December 1999, continuously acquires a systematic, global, multi-angle imagery in reflected sunlight in order to support and improve studies of-Earth's ecology and climate. Moderate-resolution data acquired with a unique configuration of nine fixed pushbroom cameras need to be autonomously georectified prior to use in subsequent scientific retrievals. A robust data production algorithm is based on in-flight generated calibration datasets produced at the beginning of the mission and operationally validated in the first two years. However, in order to maintain required subpixel co-registration accuracies, globally and throughout the life of the mission, data production operations are complemented with a quality monitoring system. This system has been critical in: 1) resolving impact issues that georectification quality may have on subsequent retrievals, 2) providing bases for decisions regarding updates of the calibration datasets and production algorithm, and 3) evaluating and summarizing overall pointing stability and georectification performance. With the series of quality investigations focusing on the georectification requirements, it was determined that the pointing stability of one of the cameras is not as good as the other eight cameras. As a result, the data production algorithm has been updated to assure uniform georectification and co-registration performance prior to processing a final data collection for the entire life of the mission. Presented in this paper will be: an overview of the calibration approach and related quality monitoring system, operational results prior to and after the final implementation and the global summaries on geospatial data accuracies. [Termes IGN] télédétection acoustiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Whenever Remote Sensing is discussed it seems to the author that this type of survey should be performed from air- and space-borne platforms. However when we take the term remote sensing quite literally, it means measuring without touching. A more appropriate definition of remote sensing would perhaps be imaging from a distance. If, for the sake of this article, we extend the definition to include imaging from other platforms than air- and space borne, a whole new world of Remote Sensing lies open to us. Considering that 70% of the earth is covered with water, this article will describe the various Systems currently in use for underwater remote sensing, or as those who profess call it, hydrography. [Termes IGN] orientation du capteurRésumé : (Auteur) Though the ISPRS has had standardization on its agenda for a long time the progress was slow and the output of completed document is still limited. The reasons are manifold: lack of awareness of standardization, necessary alignment with the standardization of geographic information done by the ISO/TC 211, emerging of new sensors while standardization work was ongoing, and the lack of technical consensus on many details such as data formats. Initiated by EuroSDR and ISPRS, the EuroCOW workshop in January 2006 brought experts together who represented the leading edge of the new generation of airborne imaging sensors. This article is intended to be a starting point for the necessary discussion about an orientation and calibration standard that fulfills modern requirements. Three authors give their views on the topic and point to essential components of a standard in the future.

[Termes IGN] World Geodetic System 1984Résumé : (Auteur) The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) successfully acquired terrain elevation data for 80 percent of the Earth's landmass in February 2000. The radar system and data collection scheme designed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) met the global requirements of the U.S. Department of Defence for Level 2 Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED®) JPL processed the raw data into unfinished DTED® 2 and other products that were delivered to two contractors of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The contractors edited the unfinished DTED® 2, updated the associated products, and generated finished products for distribution. Automated processes were developed by each contractor to identify, delineate and set heights for lakes, rivers, and ocean coastlines in conformance with an extensive set of editing rules created to maintain consistency and uniformity in the final products. The finished DTED® is significantly better than the 16 m vertical accuracy required by the original specification.
