[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) Slope length gradient (LS) is one of the crucial factors in the Universal Soil Loss Equations (USLE, RUSLE). This study aimed at estimating the slope-length and slope-steepness (LS) factor for the entire watersheds of Afghanistan by using three different methods, namely; (1) LS-TOOLMFD (Method 1); (2) The Method of Equations (Method 2); and (3) The approach of Moore and Burch (Method 3). The first method uses the digital elevation model (DEM) in the ASCII format, and the other two methods use the DEM in the spatial domain. The results show that the LS-factor of the study area ranges from 0.01 to 44.31, with a mean of 5.24 and standard deviation of 6.95, according to Method 1; 0.03 to 163.49, with a mean of 9.6 and standard deviation of 13.58, according to Method 2; and 0 to 3985, with a mean of 7.16 and standard deviation of 29.7, according to Method 3. The study reveals that Methods 1 and 2 are more appropriate than Method 3 because Method 3 yields high LS-factor values close to or at streamlines located near mountainous regions. The highest LS values are found to be in the northeast, north, and central regions of Afghanistan, which is consistent with the high mountains and deep valley geomorphology, indicating that these regions are particularly vulnerable to soil erosion by rainfall-runoff processes. The sediment delivery ratio (SDR) for the Upper-Helmand River Basin (Upper-HRB) is also estimated by the RUSLE, employing the LS factors produced by the three methods. The results revealed that the average annual soil loss is found to be, respectively, 9.3, 18.2, and 11.1 (ton/ha/year) by using the three methods, corresponding to SDR of 23.5%, 12.1%, and 19.9%. [Termes IGN] TurquieRésumé : (auteur) Population density is important spatial information for addressing the use and access to land resources in cities under the Sustainable Development Goals. This is because the spatial data support appropriate spatial policies at the spatial scale and predicts how much land will be consumed in the future. The study aims to compare and evaluate the regression tools in the context of estimating the population density difference. The three analysis tools used are Random Forest-Based Classification, Multiple Linear Regression, and Geographically Weighted Regression. The sampling area covers cities around Türkiye. Comparative results showed that the two most important descriptive variables in the Random Forest-Based Classification model are the density difference of the new developed area and the connectivity. The three main explanatory variables of the Multiple Linear Regression model are centrality, vehicle ownership, and accessibility. The results of the Multiple Linear Regression model (a non-spatial model) and the Geographically Weighted Regression model (a spatial model), were found to be quite similar. The importance of accessibility and connectivity is more evident in the Multiple Linear Regression model when the Random Forest-Based Classification model highlights the density values in the new development areas. [Termes IGN] TwitterRésumé : (auteur) Urban planners have been long interested in understanding how urban structure and activities are mutually influenced. Human mobility and economic activities naturally drive the formation of road network structure and the accessibility of the latter shapes the patterns of movement flow across urban space. In this paper, we perform an exploratory study on the relationship between the street network structure and the intensity of human movement in urban areas. We focus on two cities and we utilize a dataset of geo-tagged tweets that can form a proxy to urban mobility and the corresponding street networks as obtained from OpenStreetMap. We apply three network centrality measures, including closeness, betweenness and straightness centrality, calculated at a global or local scale, as well as under mixed or individual transportation mode (e.g., driving, biking and walking) with its directional accessibility, to uncover the structural properties of urban street networks. We further design an urban area transition network and apply PageRank to capture the intensity of human mobility. Our correlation analysis indicates different centrality metrics have different levels of correlation with the intensity of human movement. The closeness centrality consistently shows the highest correlation (with a coefficient around 0.6) with human movement intensity when calculated at a global scale, while straightness centrality often shows no correlation at the global scale or weaker correlation ρ≈0.4 at the local scale. The correlation levels further depend on the type of directional accessibility and of various types of transportation modes. Hence, the directionality and transportation mode, largely ignored in the analysis of road networks, are crucial. Furthermore, the strength of the correlation varies in the two cities examined, indicating potential differences in urban spatial structure and human mobility patterns.
