[Termes IGN] similitudeRésumé : (auteur) Existing methods of spatial data clustering have focused on point data, whose similarity can be easily defined. Due to the complex shapes and alignments of polygons, the similarity between non-overlapping polygons is important to cluster polygons. This study attempts to present an efficient method to discover clustering patterns of polygons by incorporating spatial cognition principles and multilevel graph partition. Based on spatial cognition on spatial similarity of polygons, four new similarity criteria (i.e. the distance, connectivity, size and shape) are developed to measure the similarity between polygons, and used to visually distinguish those polygons belonging to the same clusters from those to different clusters. The clustering method with multilevel graph-partition first coarsens the graph of polygons at multiple levels, using the four defined similarities to find clusters with maximum similarity among polygons in the same clusters, then refines the obtained clusters by keeping minimum similarity between different clusters. The presented method is a general algorithm for discovering clustering patterns of polygons and can satisfy various demands by changing the weights of distance, connectivity, size and shape in spatial similarity. The presented method is tested by clustering residential areas and buildings, and the results demonstrate its usefulness and universality. [Termes IGN] littoral méditerranéenRésumé : (auteur) Desertification is a complex environmental phenomenon that affects many regions worldwide, including the Mediterranean area. Its effects, primarily resulting from climate variations and also influenced by human-induced changes, impact upon potential regional progress due to significant economic losses, social problems and ecological damage. The aim of this study was the identification of sensitive areas to desertification at watershed scale, in the Bradano River basin (Basilicata, southern Italy). The analysis was carried out by means of the model developed within the European project MEDALUS (MEditerranean Desertification And Land USe), which identifies prone areas to desertification through the Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs) index. The model parameters were implemented and processed using a GIS-based approach to evaluate climate, soil, vegetation and management system quality factors, which represent the input for the ESAs assessment. The results indicate that 35% of the study area is highly sensitive to desertification, 49% of the study area has moderate sensitivity to desertification, 12% has low sensitivity and only 4% is non-sensitive to desertification. [Termes IGN] zone d'intérêtRésumé : (auteur) The analysis of social media content for the extraction of geospatial information and event-related knowledge has recently received substantial attention. In this article we present an approach that leverages the complementary nature of social multimedia content by utilizing heterogeneous sources of social media feeds to assess the impact area of a natural disaster. More specifically, we introduce a novel social multimedia triangulation process that uses both Twitter and Flickr content in an integrated two-step process: Twitter content is used to identify toponym references associated with a disaster; this information is then used to provide approximate orientation for the associated Flickr imagery, allowing us to delineate the impact area as the overlap of multiple view footprints. In this approach, we practically crowdsource approximate orientations from Twitter content and use this information to orient Flickr imagery accordingly and identify the impact area through viewshed analysis and viewpoint integration. This approach enables us to avoid computationally intensive image analysis tasks associated with traditional image orientation, while allowing us to triangulate numerous images by having them pointed towards the crowdsourced toponym location. The article presents our approach and demonstrates its performance using a real-world wildfire event as a representative application case study. [Termes IGN] transport routierRésumé : (Auteur) This paper deals with the car accessibility of the Slovenian municipalities to the nearest motorway or expressway accesspoint. To this end, we review the accessibility measures used in transport planning strategies and highlight important factors in modelling transport accessibility. Further, an overview of the studies of transport accessibility modelling in Slovenia is presented. The suggested raster model upgrades the current practice of modelling transport accessibility in Slovenia by considering the influence of average traffic volume (congestion), road gradient, and land use density on travel speed. The model results reveal a large disparity in the accessibility among Slovenian municipalities. The paper also compares the proposed model results with the earlier model results. In general, average transport accessibility in Slovenian municipalities did not change in 2009–2013 ; our model suggested the list of problematic municipalities in border areas similar to the one identified in the earlier models.
