[Termes IGN] surveillance hydrologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Natural disasters management can substantially be helped by remote sensing in many areas. Not only the objective documentation of the disasters can be done through the utilization of satellite data in many cases, but this technology also provides information for the planning, during the prevention, preparation period and also in the most serious time of the mitigation. Excessive and lacking water, that is flood, waterlog and draught are quite frequent in Hungary, but in the past decade their occurrence was remarkably higher. This paper shows examples, how remote sensing techniques can operationally be used in the combat, mitigation management at local and national levels. [Termes IGN] risque naturelRésumé : (Auteur) In this communication, we combine different products obtained from the NOAAAVHRR sensor in order to evaluate the relationships between the anomalies in the NDVI in peninsular Spain and the Balearic islands during the four summer months of the year 2000 and the active "hot spots" detected in the same time period and available in the World Fire Web. The analysis is carried out using the relative proportions of pixels affected and not affected by fire in the several anomaly classes defined for the whole study area and additionally for the different Autonomous Communities. Our starting hypothesis is that forest fires are registered in higher proportions in the negative anomaly classes, that is, with NDVI values lower than the mean for a reference period. The results obtained present a great agreement with this hypothesis, in such a way that the relative proportion of pixels affected by fire is greater in the negative anomaly classes. [Termes IGN] SoudanRésumé : (Auteur) The integration of IKONOS satellite data, airborne color infrared remote sensing, visualization, and decision support tools is discussed, within the contexts of management techniques for minimizing nonpoint source pollution in inland waterways, such as riparian buffer restoration, and of strategies for food crop production sustainability, in an array of ecosystems. Case studies include the Little Miami River Watershed, Ohio; the Barataria Basin and Bayou Sauvage, Louisiana; and Sudan's Gezira. The investigation's objectives are to ascertain the utility of environmental decision support, informed by archival satellite data visualization and alternative future scenarios generation, and to explore site-specific sensitivity of such technologies, in support of inter-generationally prudent management of watersheds and sustainable regional food security. Follow-on collaborative research with European counterparts (e.g. Foundation for Research & TechnologyHellas (FORTH), Crete, Greece) is planned to include enhancement, hardening, environmental technology verification, and field deployment of the prototype Temporal Analysis, Reconnaissance and Decision Integration System (TARDIS).
