[Termes IGN] sécheresseRésumé : (Auteur) In this work, we combine spatial data from a Digital Forest Map of Spain, the Second National Forest Inventory and TM images to explore the differences in the spectral response of several vegetation types in three years with strong differences in water availability. The results point to the possibility of discrimination between dry and humid years based on the NDVI, although drought conditions affect in different ways to the several vegetation types. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Each year, millions of tons of forests and savannah all over the world are destroyed. Animal and plant species disappear as a result of deforestation and fires caused by nature and human activity. This drastic reduction in forests has had an adverse impact on the delicate global ecosystem. Using NOAA AHVRR imagery, manipulated by ERDAS Imagine software, a study has been completed to identify, assess and differennate between forests that remain intact and forests that are on fire, or damaged areas in the Central African Republic. Vector and raster data were overlaid to provide a simple, but effective, Geographical Information System. [Termes IGN] VénézuelaRésumé : (Auteur) This paper describes progress in the development of a landslide susceptibility model which is based on slope stability equations. Using a test area in the Venezuelan Andes, we show how model inputs can be derived from suitably pre-processed Landsat TM data and maps of the area. Pre-processing steps include geometric and terrain corrections. A combination of unsupervised and supervised classification algorithms is applied to the corrected TM data to derive a land cover map. The paper concludes with a summary of future research activity. [Termes IGN] télédétection aérienneRésumé : (Auteur) This paper reports on progress made to link physiologically-based indicators to optical indices scaling-up from leaf level to the canopy through SAIL and Kuusk Canopy Reflectance Models (CR). Hyperspectral CASI data of 2m spatial resolution and 72 channels were collected in 1997 and 1998 deployments over twelve sites of Acer saccharum M. in Ontario (Canada). A field sampling campaign was carried out for biochemical analysis of leaf chlorophyll and carotenoid concentrations, and fluorescence along with leaf reflectance and transmittance. Leaf-level relationships obtained between optical indices and biochemical indicators were scaled-up to canopy level through CR models using input model parameters related to the canopy structure and viewing geometry at the time of data acquisition. The result is an algorithm which predicts leaf-level bioindicators from airborne hyperspectral imagery. A modeling study was carried out to determine the influence of CR on the four types of optical indices used in this study. [Termes IGN] teneur en eau de la végétationRésumé : (Auteur) Fuel Moisture Content (FMC) for Mediterranean species was measured and correlated with laboratory radiometry, NOAA-AVHRR and Landsat-TM images. The best variable related to FMC was the quotient between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and Surface Temperature (NDVI/ST). Two other indices derived from Landsat's SWIR bands also showed good correlation. Two multiple regression equations to derive a synthetic FMC for grassland and shrubs are presented, with r values of 0.61.
