[Termes IGN] Rhododendron (genre)Résumé : (Auteur) Leaf area index (LAI) is an important variable of terrestrial ecosystems because it is strongly correlated with many ecosystem processes (e.g., water balance and evapotranspiration) and directly related to the plant energy balance and gas exchanges. Although LAI has been accurately predicted using visible and short-wave infrared hyperspectral data (0.3–2.5 μm), LAI estimation using thermal infrared (TIR, 8–14 μm) measurements has not yet been addressed. The novel approach of this study is to evaluate the retrieval of LAI using TIR hyperspectral data. The leaf area indices were destructively acquired for four plant species: Azalea japonica, Buxus sempervirens, Euonymus japonicus, and Ficus benjamina. Canopy emissivity spectral measurements were obtained under controlled laboratory conditions using a MIDAC (M4401-F) spectrometer. The LAI retrieval was assessed using a partial least squares regression (PLSR), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and narrow band indices calculated from all possible combinations of waveband pairs for three vegetation indices including simple difference, simple ratio, and normalized difference. [Termes IGN] série temporelleRésumé : (Auteur) Land cover/land use (LCLU) information extraction from multitemporal sequences of remote sensing imagery is becoming increasingly important. Mixed pixels are a common problem in Landsat and MODIS images that are used widely for LCLU monitoring. Recently developed subpixel mapping (SPM) techniques can extract LCLU information at the subpixel level by dividing mixed pixels into subpixels to which hard classes are then allocated. However, SPM has rarely been studied for time-series images (TSIs). In this paper, a spatiotemporal SPM approach was proposed for SPM of TSIs. In contrast to conventional spatial dependence-based SPM methods, the proposed approach considers simultaneously spatial and temporal dependences, with the former considering the correlation of subpixel classes within each image and the latter considering the correlation of subpixel classes between images in a temporal sequence. The proposed approach was developed assuming the availability of one fine spatial resolution map which exists among the TSIs. The SPM of TSIs is formulated as a constrained optimization problem. Under the coherence constraint imposed by the coarse LCLU proportions, the objective is to maximize the spatiotemporal dependence, which is defined by blending both spatial and temporal dependences. Experiments on three data sets showed that the proposed approach can provide more accurate subpixel resolution TSIs than conventional SPM methods. The SPM results obtained from the TSIs provide an excellent opportunity for LCLU dynamic monitoring and change detection at a finer spatial resolution than the available coarse spatial resolution TSIs. [Termes IGN] teneur en carboneRésumé : (Auteur) Reliable and accurate mapping and extraction of key forest indicators of ecosystem development and health, such as aboveground biomass (AGB) and aboveground carbon stocks (AGCS) is critical in understanding forests contribution to the local, regional and global carbon cycle. This information is critical in assessing forest contribution towards ecosystem functioning and services, as well as their conservation status. This work aimed at assessing the applicability of the high resolution 8-band WorldView-2 multispectral dataset together with environmental variables in quantifying AGB and aboveground carbon stocks for three forest plantation species i.e. Eucalyptus dunii (ED), Eucalyptus grandis (EG) and Pinus taeda (PT) in uMgeni Catchment, South Africa. Specifically, the strength of the Worldview-2 sensor in terms of its improved imaging agilities is examined as an independent dataset and in conjunction with selected environmental variables. The results have demonstrated that the integration of high resolution 8-band Worldview-2 multispectral data with environmental variables provide improved AGB and AGCS estimates, when compared to the use of spectral data as an independent dataset. The use of integrated datasets yielded a high R2 value of 0.88 and RMSEs of 10.05 t ha−1 and 5.03 t C ha−1 for E. dunii AGB and carbon stocks; whereas the use of spectral data as an independent dataset yielded slightly weaker results, producing an R2 value of 0.73 and an RMSE of 18.57 t ha−1 and 09.29 t C ha−1. Similarly, high accurate results (R2 value of 0.73 and RMSE values of 27.30 t ha−1 and 13.65 t C ha−1) were observed from the estimation of inter-species AGB and carbon stocks. Overall, the findings of this work have shown that the integration of new generation multispectral datasets with environmental variables provide a robust toolset required for the accurate and reliable retrieval of forest aboveground biomass and carbon stocks in densely forested terrestrial ecosystems. [Termes IGN] télédétection spatialeRésumé : (auteur) [introduction][...]L'enjeu pour le service Statistique de la DAAF Mayotte(Direction de l'Agriculture, Alimentation et Forêt) est d'éviter d'inventorier exhaustivement par voie terrestre, en ayant recours à des images satellites pour orienter les enquêtes sur le terrain lors, notamment, du prochain Recensement Agricole (RA) 2020. Le but de l'étude, décrite ci-après, est de cartographier à grande échelle l'occupation des sols par télédétection. La difficulté majeure vient du fait que le "modèle agricole" le plus usité à Mayotte est le «jardin mahorais» où une famille cultive, sur de petites surfaces (à peine 0,5 ha) différentes espèces : bananes légumes, manioc, embrevade (pois d'angole), ananas, cela sous un couvert arboré épars de manguiers, cocotiers, litchis ou autres essences. Ce mode d'agriculture s'apparente à de l'agro-foresterie dont les vertus ne sont plus à démontrer en termes d'avantages environnementaux et agronomiques.

[Termes IGN] teneur en eau de la végétationRésumé : (Auteur) Evapotranspiration (ET) is a vital process in land surface atmosphere research. In this study, Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) for the assessment of ET (for 23 December 2010, 8 January 2011, 24 January 2011, 9 February 2011, 25 February 2011, 29 March 2011 and 14 April 2011) from LANDSAT7-ETM+ and validation with Lysimeter data set is illustrated. It is based on the evaporative fraction concept, and it has been applied to LANDSAT7-ETM + (30 m resolution) data acquired over the Indian Agricultural Research Institute’s agricultural farm land. The ET from SEBAL was compared with Lysimeter ET using four statistical tests (root-mean-square error (RMSE), relative root-mean-square error (R-RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and normalized root-mean square error (NRMSE)), and each test showed a good correlation between the predicted and observed ET values. Results from this study revealed that the RMSE of crop-growing period was 0.51 mm d−1 for ETSEBAL, i.e. ETSEBAL having good accuracy with respect to observed ETLysimeter. Results were also validated using R-RMSE test, which also proved that ETSEBAL data are having good accuracy with respect to observed ETLysimeter as R-RMSE of crop-growing period is 0.19 mm d−1. MAE (0.19), NRMSE (0.21) and r2 (0.91) tests indicated that model prediction is significant, and model can be effectively used for the estimation of ET from SEBAL as input of remote sensing data sets. Finally, the SEBAL has been useful for remote agricultural land where ground-based data (Lysimeter data) are not available for daily ET (ET24 h) estimation. The temporal study of the ET24 h values analysed has revealed that the highest ET24 h values are owing to the higher development (high greenness) of crops, whereas the lower values are related to the lower development (low greenness) or null crop.
