[Termes IGN] SuèdeRésumé : (Auteur) Given the importance of coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM) for the structure and function of lake ecosystems, a method to estimate the amount of CDOM in lake waters over large geographic areas would be highly desirable. Advanced Land Imager (ALI) images were acquired in southern Finland (in 2002) and southern Sweden (in 2003) together with in situ. measurements of bio-optical properties of 34 lakes (39 measuring stations). Based on this dataset, a band-ratio type algorithm was developed using ALI band 2 and band 3 for estimating CDOM content (absorption of filtrated water at 420 nm) in lakes. Correlation between in situ measured CDOM and the remote sensing estimate of CDOM was high, r2=0 .73. The CDOM retrieval algorithm obtained on the basis of two images and in situ data was validated on a third ALI image (eastern Finland, 2002) that was available in the ALI image archive. In situ water-colour monitoring data from 22 lakes (27 measuring stations) in the third image were available in a database of the Finnish Environment Administration. The water-colour data were converted to CDOM absorption values, which were then compared to the results from a third ALI image. The correlation between remotely estimated and in situ CDOM values in the algorithm validation image was high, r2=0 .83. These results support the conclusion that CDOM content in lakes over a wide range of concentrations (aCDOM(420) between 0.68 and 11.13 m-1) can be mapped using Advanced Land Imager data. Structural features of forests can serve as useful indicators of forest condition and have the potential to be assessed with remotely sensed imagery, which can provide quantitative information on forest ecosystems at high temporal and spatial resolutions. Herein, we investigate the utility of remote sensing for assessing, predicting and mapping two important forest structural features, stem density and basal area, in tropical, littoral forests in southeastern Madagascar. We analysed the relationships of basal area and stem density measurements to the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and radiance measurements in bands 3, 4, 5 and 7 from the Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+). Strong relationships were identified among all of the individual bands and field based measurements of basal area (p Numéro de notice : A2005-069 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : BIODIVERSITE/FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1016/j.rse.2004.12.001 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2004.12.001 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27207

[Termes IGN] végétationRésumé : (Auteur) Covering soils with vegetation during the fallow and planting seasons is one of the main ways to reduce water pollution, by restricting pollutant fluxes to aquatic systems. The bare soil/vegetation ratio monitoring can be carried out daily with a coarse spatial resolution using SPOT VEGETATION (1 km). Nevertheless, land-cover changes detected at a regional scale with this ratio may be due to winter vegetation cover changes as well as the influence of climatic events. Therefore, observed changes have to be validated from a local-scale analysis with higher spatial resolution data. The aim of this study is to develop a technique that allows high or low variations detected at a regional scale to be assessed from SPOT VEGETATION images with data acquired at a higher scale, SPOT High Resolution Visible and Infrared images in our case. In this study, the link between the images from the two sensors is achieved from the design of an artificial neural network method based on a Kohonen self-organizing map. The originality of this method lies in the use of external knowledge from ground observations and the use of temporal behavior to solve such a change of scale. Results of testing this method by using a potential change map based on the last few years' land-cover observations have shown a good correspondence between the observed and predicted bare soil/vegetation balance with regards to the spatial resolution difference between the two sensors. [Termes IGN] subsidenceRésumé : (Auteur) Satellite radar interferometry can be used to spatially monitor small vertical ground deformations. When millimeter accuracy is required, the differential interferometry technique is hampered by the ambiguity with atmospheric artifacts. It is also often difficult to obtain a precise evaluation of the kinematic evolution of ground deformations from a set of time, randomly distributed interferograms. We present the results of a least-squares approach coupled with a temporal filtering and applied to a large data set over the City of Paris. The mean deformation rate and a map of areas affected by time, non-linear deformation events are presented. We show that this approach, which provides a chronologically ordered set of phase screens, allows the retrieval of the kinematic Parameters of ground deformations as low as 1 to 2 mm per year. Subsiding areas have been detected, and their evolution in time has been quantified. Such an approach can be useful to fully characterize the kinematic evolution of ground deformations in major cities or desertic areas where large areas have a high degree of coherence and where millimeter accuracy is often required. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Geological structures on remotely sensed images, Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images in this case, can be classified by quantitative depth information on the basis of the comparison of results from Landsat TM images and geophysical data. Although the lineaments with different depths can be visually interpreted together on Landsat TM images, the depth information and geological significance of these lineaments are however hard to obtain solely from the Landsat TM images of a study area under a thick cover, and it is of much importance for hydrocarbon exploration in the Western Slope Belt of Songliao Basin, northeast China. During the present study, the 3-dimensional field source information, including location and depth information, is derived from 3dimensional Euler deconvolution of gravity data in particular. As an example, it may be quantitatively classified into four groups of depth range: 1000m. It is then superimposed onto the lineaments map from Landsat TM images using a geographical information system (GIS). With a comprehensive analysis of the superimposed maps, we obtain validation and quantitative depth information of the geological structures delineated on the Landsat TM images. Four depth-layered maps of geological structures with different depths are presented here. It is concluded that the number of structures with depth greater than 1000 m on the Landsat TM images is fewer than those at the other three depth ranges. The detection of geological structures on Landsat TM images attributed to depth information derived from the geophysical data may also be possible by this approach.
