[Termes IGN] représentation multipleRésumé : (Auteur) The digital elevation model (DEM) is a significant digital representation of a terrain surface. Although a variety of DEM products are available, they often suffer from problems varying in spatial coverage, data resolution, and accuracy. However, the multi-source DEMs often contain supplementary information, which makes it possible to produce a higher-quality DEM through blending the multi-scale data. Inspired by super-resolution (SR) methods, we propose a regularized framework for the production of high-resolution (HR) DEM data with extended coverage. To deal with the registration error and the horizontal displacement among multi-scale measurements, robust data fidelity with weighted norm is employed to measure the conformance of the reconstructed HR data to the observed data. Furthermore, a slope-based Markov random field (MRF) regularization is used as the spatial regularization. The proposed method can simultaneously handle complex terrain features, noises, and data voids. Using the proposed method, we can reconstruct a seamless DEM data with the highest resolution among the input data, and an extensive spatial coverage. The experiments confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method under different cases. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Geospatial techniques based on remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) are important in urban studies. However, based on traditional techniques, the analysis of the intensity ans spatial pattern of urban land use is, in most cases, based only on the lateral extent of built-up lands (two-dimensional). The increasing availability of geospatial data, such remote sensing satellite imageries and digital surfaces models, provides an opportunity for the integration of the third dimension in urban analysis, i.e. height of urban features such as high-rise buildings, into urban studies, and thus enables the estimation of the so-called urban volume. This study introduces a geospatial technique for estimating urban volume, focusing on the use of a digital surface model (DSM) derived from Alos PRISM data. It also presents a method for deriving a digital terrain model (DTM) from a DSM. The proposed technique was tested in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Overall, the results show that the proposed technique is capable of taking into consideration the height dimension in urban analysis. The proposed two-step grid-based method for deriving a DTM from DSM is also implementable and promising. In this method, there is a need to calibrate the size of the mesh for identifying the pixels or points to be used in DTM interpolation. This is because different mesh size can produce subtantially different DTMs, suface feature height values and urban volumes estimates. [Termes IGN] VeniseRésumé : (Auteur) La préservation et la valorisation de notre patrimoine culturel exigent une documentation détaillée, tant en termes d'emplacement, de forme, de couleur et de géométrie, que de caractéristiques plus strictement historiques et artistiques. La topographie a connu au cours du temps un perfectionnement des techniques d'acquisition de données en phase avec le développement technologique. Les technologies électroniques et informatiques actuelles, instruments de la géomatique moderne, permettent de mesurer et de représenter efficacement des objets tridimensionnels à différentes échelles, depuis les structures architecturales jusqu'aux découvertes archéologiques, et de restituer ainsi toutes les nuances de notre patrimoine riche et diversifié. Cet article décrit comment les nouvelles méthodes numériques peuvent être utilisées dans le patrimoine culturel non seulement dans le but de documenter l'état actuel, mais aussi de retracer l'histoire d'une architecture dont les transformations notables seront ainsi préservées et représentées numériquement. Le cas particulier présenté dans cet article, la Ca' Vendramin dei Leoni, c'est-à-dire le bâtiment qui abrite le musée Guggenheim de Venise, est un exemple significatif, car non seulement il soulève le problème de ce qui n'existe plus comme on ne l'a jamais fait, mais il permet aussi de formuler des hypothèses concernant sa conception et l'impact que ce palais aurait eu dans le contexte vénitien. [Termes IGN] ombreRésumé : (auteur) This paper proposes an accurate multi-view stereo method for image-based 3D reconstruction that features robustness in the presence of occlusions. The new method offers improvements in dealing with two fundamental image matching problems. The first concerns the selection of the support window model, while the second centers upon accurate visibility estimation for each pixel. The support window model is based on an approximate 3D support plane described by a depth and two per-pixel depth offsets. For the visibility estimation, the multi-view constraint is initially relaxed by generating separate support plane maps for each support image using a modified PatchMatch algorithm. Then the most likely visible support image, which represents the minimum visibility of each pixel, is extracted via a discrete Markov Random Field model and it is further augmented by parameter clustering. Once the visibility is estimated, multi-view optimization taking into account all redundant observations is conducted to achieve optimal accuracy in the 3D surface generation for both depth and surface normal estimates. Finally, multi-view consistency is utilized to eliminate any remaining observational outliers. The proposed method is experimentally evaluated using well-known Middlebury datasets, and results obtained demonstrate that it is amongst the most accurate of the methods thus far reported via the Middlebury MVS website. Moreover, the new method exhibits a high completeness rate. This paper addresses the question of how and particularly when Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) should be used in order to efficiently discriminate deciduous tree species. The goal of this research is to determine when is the best time window to achieve an optimal species discrimination. A time series of high resolution UAS imagery was collected to cover the growing season from leaf flush to leaf fall. Full benefit was taken of the temporal resolution of UAS acquisition, one of the most promising features of small drones. The disparity in forest tree phenology is at the maximum during early spring and late autumn. But the phenology state that optimized the classification result is the one that minimizes the spectral variation within tree species groups and, at the same time, maximizes the phenologic differences between species. Sunlit tree crowns (5 deciduous species groups) were classified using a Random Forest approach for monotemporal, two-date and three-date combinations. The end of leaf flushing was the most efficient single-date time window. Multitemporal datasets definitely improve the overall classification accuracy. But single-date high resolution orthophotomosaics, acquired on optimal time-windows, result in a very good classification accuracy (overall out of bag error of 16%).
