[Termes IGN] réflectance spectraleRésumé : (Auteur) The fusion of hyperspectral imaging (HSI) sensor and airborne lidar scanner (ALS) data provides promising potential for applications in environmental sciences. Standard fusion approaches use reflectance information from the HSI and distance measurements from the ALS to increase data dimensionality and geometric accuracy. However, the potential for data fusion based on the respective intensity information of the complementary active and passive sensor systems is high and not yet fully exploited. Here, an approach for the rigorous illumination correction of HSI data, based on the radiometric cross-calibrated return intensity information of ALS data, is presented. The cross calibration utilizes a ray tracing-based fusion of both sensor measurements by intersecting their particular beam shapes. The developed method is capable of compensating for the drawbacks of passive HSI systems, such as cast and cloud shadowing effects, illumination changes over time, across track illumination, and partly anisotropy effects. During processing, spatial and temporal differences in illumination patterns are detected and corrected over the entire HSI wavelength domain. The improvement in the classification accuracy of urban and vegetation surfaces demonstrates the benefit and potential of the proposed HSI illumination correction. The presented approach is the first step toward the rigorous in-flight fusion of passive and active system characteristics, enabling new capabilities for a variety of applications. [Termes IGN] valeur propreRésumé : (auteur) In photogrammetry, remote sensing, computer vision and robotics, a topic of major interest is represented by the automatic analysis of 3D point cloud data. This task often relies on the use of geometric features amongst which particularly the ones derived from the eigenvalues of the 3D structure tensor (e.g. the three dimensionality features of linearity, planarity and sphericity) have proven to be descriptive and are therefore commonly involved for classification tasks. Although these geometric features are meanwhile considered as standard, very little attention has been paid to their accuracy and robustness. In this paper, we hence focus on the influence of discretization and noise on the most commonly used geometric features. More specifically, we investigate the accuracy and robustness of the eigenvalues of the 3D structure tensor and also of the features derived from these eigenvalues. Thereby, we provide both analytical and numerical considerations which clearly reveal that certain features are more susceptible to discretization and noise whereas others are more robust. [Termes IGN] validation des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are an invaluable source of information in large area studies. Some of the DEMs such as Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission Radiometer-Global Digital Elevation Model (ASTER GDEM), shuttle radar topography mission (SRTM), and Global Multi-resolution Terrain Elevation Data 2010 (GMTED2010) are, freely available for the scientific community worldwide. Prior to any application, global datasets of DEMs should he evaluated using reference data of higher accuracy. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to assess the quality of the ASTER GDEM (version 2), SRTM (version 4) and systematic subsample GMTED2010 in Tunisia. The validation process, adopted here, is based on two main approaches: internai and external validations. The internai validation is achieved by petforming visual inspection of shaded relief images extracted from the three DEMs. At this level, results show that SRTM is essentially similar to ASTER GDEM2 in term of relief features representation. In the second alternative, the vertical accuracy of each DEM is evaluated using 60 Global Positioning System (GPS) validation points. The overall vertical accuracy shows RMSE error of 11.96 m, 8.65 m and 10.86 m for ASTER GDEM2, SRTM and GMTED2010 DEM respectively, in comparison with GPS elevation points. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) We propose an efficient approach for building compact, edge-preserving, view-centric triangle meshes from either dense or sparse depth data, with a focus on modeling architecture in large-scale urban scenes. Our method constructs a 2D base mesh from a preliminary view partitioning, then lifts the base mesh into 3D in a fast vertex depth optimization. Different view partitioning schemes are proposed for imagery and dense depth maps. They guarantee that mesh edges are aligned with crease edges and discontinuities. In particular, we introduce an effective plane merging procedure with a global error guarantee in order to maximally compact the resulting models. Moreover, different strategies for detecting and handling discontinuities are presented. We demonstrate that our approach provides an excellent trade-off between quality and compactness, and is eligible for fast production of polyhedral building models from large-scale urban height maps, as well as, for direct meshing of sparse street-side Structure-from-Motion (SfM) data.
