[Termes IGN] qualité des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a research on the estimation of the impact of geometric imprecision on basic measurements (length, area) in vector databases, in order to generate relevant information for decision making. The goal consists in the elaboration of a model allowing a non-expert user to evaluate the geometric imprecision of its dataset, using data analysis as well as description of production processes (such as digitising or generalisation). We suppose that these processes induce variable contribution to errors in a dataset, and are exposed to spatial heterogeneity according to the geographical context. This model lays on a knowledge base, based on measurements, contextual indicators and additional information on the dataset production. In order to evaluate a dataset's geometric imprecision impact without any reference, decision rules are under development, using the knowledge base coupled with hypothesis on the influence of the geographical context on production processes. Experimentation on a road network illustrates the respective impact of production processes in the final length measurement error. Possibilities to communicate this impact following a particular usage are also evocated. [Termes IGN] système multi-agentsRésumé : (auteur) Agent-based models (ABMs) are used in the spatial sciences as building-blocks for computer simulation. ABMs have a range of advantageous attributes, not least of which is their flexibility in representing dynamic and highly adaptive physical or human phenomena. ABMs facilitate the exploration of ideas about the myriad of ways that geographical systems develop, behave, interact and evolve, often supporting experimentation with geographical systems in ways that are simply not possible in the real world. Indeed, in many cases, ABMs are developed from the bottom up, pedagogically, as a tool in building theory. Geographers’ work with ABMs has helped to strengthen existing ties with related disciplines such as computer science and informatics, ecology, sustainability science, economics, anthropology, political science and the earth sciences. Primarily because of the value placed on spatial science and behavioral geography in agent-based modeling, work of this kind is helping to infuse geographical perspectives and ‘spatial thinking’ into these fields. This article reviews the development of agent-based modeling in the spatial sciences, its current uses and applications in physical and human geography and potential future trends in its research and development. [Termes IGN] objet cartographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) A real-time map must not contain too much information. Therefore, we need measures of map information that could be guidelines for the selection of data layers and the real-time generalisation process. In this paper we evaluate measures of the amount of information and the distribution of information. The evaluation is performed by (1) defining measures, (2) implementing the measures, (3) computing the measures for some test maps, and finally (4) comparing the values of the measures with human judgement of the map information. For amount of information, we found that the measures number of objects, number of points and object line length had better correspondence with human judgement than object area. We also found that measures based on the size of Voronoi regions of objects (respectively points) can be used for identifying the distribution of information. The results are based on the testing of only building objects. Future work should extend the test, using all object types.
