[Termes IGN] PostgreSQLRésumé : (Auteur) This paper discusses extensions of GAP-trees from three aspects and its implementation based on non-topological structure in order to enhance access to large vector data sets. First of all, we apply cartographic generalization rules to build a generalization procedure of the GAP-tree, which makes coarse representations more consistent with human cognition. Second, we replace the three-dimensional (pseudo-) Reactive-tree index with a 2D R-tree index and a B-tree index to improve the system efficiency. Finally, we compress a binary GAP-tree into multi-way GAP-trees in order to reduce data redundancy. The shallower multi-way GAP-trees not only eliminate redundant data but also accelerate the system's response time. The extensions have been successfully implemented in PostgreSQL. A test of Beijing's land-use data at the 1:10 000 scale demonstrates that the extended GAP-trees are efficient, compact, and easy to implement. [Termes IGN] tétraèdreRésumé : (Auteur) This paper introduces a new compact topological 3D data structure. The proposed method models the real world as a complete decomposition of space and this subdivision is represented by a constrained tetrahedral network (TEN). Operators and definitions from the mathematical field of simplicial homology are used to define and handle this TEN structure. Only tetrahedrons need to be stored explicitly in a (single column) database table, while all simplexes of lower dimensions, constraints and topological relationships can be derived in views. As a result the data structure is relatively compact and easy to update, while it still offers favourable characteristics from a computational point of view as well as presence of topological relationships. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) Geospatial data modelling is dominated by the distinction between continuous-field and discrete-object conceptualizations. However, the boundary between them is not always clear, and the field view is more fundamental in some respects than the object view. By viewing a set of objects as an object field and unifying it with conventional field models, a new concept, the General Field (G-Field) model, is proposed. In this paper, the properties of G-Field models, including domain, range, and categorization, are discussed. As a summary, a descriptive framework for G-Field models is proposed. Then, some common geospatial operations in geographic information systems are reconsidered from the G-Field perspective. The geospatial operations are classified into order-increasing operations and non-order-increasing operations, depending on changes induced in the G-Field's order. Generally, the order can be viewed as an indicator of the level of information extraction of geospatial data. It is thus possible to integrate the concept of order with a geo-workflow management system to support geographic semantics.
