[Termes IGN] variation diurneRésumé : (Auteur) We examined performance of two empirical profile-based ionospheric models, namely IRI-2016 and NeQuick-2, in electron content (EC) and total electron content (TEC) representation for different seasons and levels of solar activity. We derived and analyzed EC estimates in several representative altitudinal intervals for the ionosphere and the plasmasphere from the COSMIC GPS radio occultation, ground-based GPS and Jason-2 joint altimeter/GPS observations. It allows us to estimate a quantitative impact of the ionospheric electron density profiles formulation in several altitudinal intervals and to examine the source of the model-data discrepancies of the EC specification from the bottom-side ionosphere towards the GPS orbit altitudes. The most pronounced model-data differences were found at the low latitude region as related to the equatorial ionization anomaly appearance. Both the IRI-2016 and NeQuick-2 models tend to overestimate the daytime ionospheric EC and TEC at low latitudes during all seasons of low solar activity. On the contrary, during high solar activity the model results underestimated the EC/TEC observations at low latitudes. We found that both models underestimated the EC for the topside ionosphere and plasmasphere regions for all levels of solar activity. For low solar activity, the underestimated EC from the topside ionosphere and plasmasphere can compensate the overestimation of the ionospheric EC and, consequently, can slightly decrease the resulted model overestimation of the ground-based TEC. For high solar activity, the underestimated EC from the topside ionosphere and plasmasphere leads to a strengthening of the model underestimation of the ground-based TEC values. We demonstrated that the major source of the model-data discrepancies in the EC/TEC domain comes from the topside ionosphere/plasmasphere system. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) Real-time precise point positioning (RT-PPP) is a popular positioning method for natural hazard warning systems (NHWS) such as for monitoring tsunami and earthquakes. PPP relays on the use of precise orbits and clock corrections. Hence, the positioning accuracy of RT-PPP will significantly deteriorate when experiencing a discontinuity in receiving these corrections, for instance due to a temporary modem failure. The best available approach in this case would be to use the International Global Navigation Satellite Systems Service ultra-rapid (IGU) orbits and clocks that would result in a low positioning accuracy. In this paper, we present a simplified approach to a method that we recently proposed to bridge outages in the corrections and improve the RT-PPP accuracy compared with the use of IGU. In this method, the most recent IGU orbits are used as they are compatible with the RT orbits; however, the clock corrections are predicted as a time series using a linear model with four sinusoidal terms. The prediction errors resulting from this method, age of the model and its validity period are discussed. The impact of using the proposed approach is evaluated at a number of sites of known positions by comparing its performance to using IGU orbits and clocks. Moreover, the impact of using predicted corrections is assessed in different scenarios. The experimental results proved validity of the presented approach where positioning mean RMSE of less than 20 cm was maintained during the outage period. [Termes IGN] teneur en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) Since many years, the GNSS has been regarded by the meteorological community as one of the systems for atmospheric water vapour remote sensing. Time series of wet delays, estimated as by-products of accurate positioning, have been assimilated into numerical weather prediction models. However, a dedicated use the system for water vapour monitoring is still under investigation. Ad hoc dense networks have been designed and implemented to collect data at a high spatial resolution, baseline lengths lower than 10 km, with the aim of describing the high spatial and temporal variability of tropospheric water vapour. Within this framework, the paper reports a study on how the positioning strategy affects the estimated coordinates and tropospheric parameters. The study was conducted on the data collected by an experimental network of geodetic receivers, used as single or dual frequency ones. More specifically, investigations were made on the use of L1-only or iono-free combinations in differential positioning of receivers 100 to 10 km apart, finding that L1-only data provide more accurate results. Therefore, comparisons between local coordinates and ZWD obtained from relative and absolute positioning were performed to provide the statistics of the differences; the agreement between the results for short baselines is always better than 1 cm standard deviation. In order to assess the differences in the results that can be obtained from the two strategies when applied to the same observation set, a further comparison was carried out in terms of baseline components and ZWD increments. It results that, even for dense networks, the differential approach produces accurate results without losing information compared to the absolute one.
