[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar systems have been widely adopted for the acquisition of dense and accurate topographic data over extended areas. The level of detail and the quality of the collected point cloud motivated the research community to investigate the possibility of automatic object extraction from such data. Prior knowledge of the terrain surface will improve the performance of object detection and extraction procedures. In this paper, a new strategy for automatic terrain extraction from lidar data is presented. The proposed strategy is based on the fact that sudden elevation changes, which usually correspond to non-ground objects, will cause relief displacements in perspective views. The introduced relief displacements will occlude neighboring ground points. To start the process, we generate a digital surface model (DSM) from the irregular lidar points using an interpolation procedure. The presence of sudden-elevation changes and the resulting occlusions can be discerned by sequentially checking the off-nadir angles to the lines of sight connecting the DSM cells and a pre-defined set of synthesized projection centers. Detected occlusions are then used to identify the occluding points, which are hypothesized to be non-ground points. Surface roughness and discontinuities together with inherent noise in the point cloud will lead to some false hypotheses. Therefore, we use a statistical filter to remove these false hypotheses. The performance of the algorithm has been evaluated and verified using both simulated and real lidar datasets with varying levels of complexity. [Termes IGN] trajectographie par GPSRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar (laser scanning) technology has been proven as a prominent technique for the acquisition of high-density and accurate topographic information. Because of systematic errors in the lidar measurements (drifts in the position and orientation information and biases in the mirror angles and ranges) and/or in the parameters relating the system components (mounting parameters), adjacent lidar strips may exhibit discrepancies. Although position and orientation drifts can have a more significant impact, these errors and their impact do not come as a surprise if the quality of the GPS/INS integration process is carefully examined. Therefore, the mounting errors are singled out in this work. The ideal solution for improving the compatibility of neighbouring strips in the presence of errors in the mounting parameters is the implementation of a rigorous calibration procedure. However, such a calibration requires the original observations, which may not be usually available. In this paper, a strip adjustment procedure to improve the compatibility between parallel lidar strips with moderate flight dynamics (for example, acquired by a fixed-wing aircraft) over an area with moderately varying elevation is proposed. The proposed method is similar to the photogrammetric block adjustment of independent models. Instead of point features, planar patches and linear features, which are represented by sets of non-conjugate points, are used for the strip adjustment. The feasibility and the performance of the proposed procedure together with its impact on subsequent activities are illustrated using experimental results from real data. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3D du bâtiRésumé : (Auteur) The advent of Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) technique provides a promising resource for three-dimensional building detection. Due to the difficulty of removing vegetation, most building detection methods fuse lidar data with multispectral images for vegetation indices and relatively few approaches use only lidar data. However, the fusing process may cause errors introduced by resolution and time difference, shadow and high-rise building displacement problems, and the geo-referencing process. This research presents a morphological building detecting method to identify buildings by gradually removing non-building pixels. First, a ground-filtering algorithm separates ground pixels with buildings, trees, and other objects. Then, an analytical approach removes the remaining non-building pixels using size, shape, height, building element structure, and the height difference between the first and last returns. The experimental results show that this method provides a comparative performance with an overall accuracy of 95.46 percent as in a study site in Austin urban area.
