[Termes IGN] vitesseRésumé : (auteur) Avalanche flow models are important tools for avalanche risk mitigation. Artificial avalanche release can provide data for validation of flow models as for example the run-out distance reached by the avalanche. Here we attempt to measure in time the position and velocity of the front of the avalanche in order to provide dynamic data for model calibration. Experiments have been carried out on the full-scale avalanche experimental site at Lautaret pass (French Alps). High speed terrestrial photogrammetry is used to obtain Digital Elevation Models (DEM) during an avalanche release. Recent advances in digital commercial cameras allow acquiring up to 4 frames per second with 10-20 Mpixels of resolution. The principal point position, the focal length and the lens distortion are obtained from calibration, indicating negligible pincushion distortion but significant lens decentration. The camera calibration parameters enable to triangulate two stereo-pairs on ground control points within 6 cm of orientation residuals. A specific DEM generated for comparison with a laser scan DEM reveals a ± 11 cm of random error but no systematic discrepancy. Finally, avalanche front positions and velocities are calculated from a 30 s sequence of stereo pairs acquired during an artificial release with 2 cameras synchronized with digital wireless radio transceivers. [Termes IGN] Triangulated Irregular NetworkRésumé : (Auteur) This paper reports an investigation into the generalization of a grid-based digital elevation model (DEM) for the purpose of terrain analysis. The focus is on the method of restructuring the grid-based surface elevation data to form a triangulated irregular network (TIN) that is optimized to keep the important terrain features and slope morphology with the minimum number of sample points. The critical points of the terrain surface are extracted from the DEM based on their significance, measured not only by their local relief, but also by their importance in identifying inherent geomorphological and drainage features in the DEM. A compound method is proposed by integrating the traditional point-additive and feature-point methods to construct a drainage-constrained TIN. The outcome is then compared with those derived from other selected methods including filtering, point-additive or feature-point algorithms. The results show that the compound approach is capable of taking advantage of both point-additive and feature-point algorithms to maximally keep the terrain features and to maintain RMSE at an acceptable level, while reducing the elevation data points by over 99%. The analytical result also shows that the proposed method outperforms the compared methods with better control in retaining drainage features at the same level of RMSE. Currently, integration of laser data and images provides the most complete information for various surveying and 3D modelling tasks. However, this integration requires that both data sets are accurately oriented to the same coordinate system. In 2008, the EuroSDR launched the project "Registration Quality - Towards Integration of Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry" in order to collect knowledge about current registration methods and their performance. The project attracted the involvement of numerous research institutes and companies. Therefore, this test gives a quite extensive set of examples and comparisons of the most important registration strategies today. The empirical results indicated that the relative orientation of airborne laser scanning data and aerial images is a feasible method in order to get data sets within the common coordinate frame. The experiment revealed that, currently, the level of automation was not the most significant factor affecting the quality of registration. More important factors included the type of tie features and the implementation of the methods. The processing time was shortest with most automatic methods, whereas the amount of manual work tended to increase the processing times. It should be noted that many of the methods were still at the developmental stage. It is expected that the performance and processing speed, in most cases, can be enhanced in the future. The test data represented an urban area and many of the methods relied upon certain objects, such as buildings. Therefore, the performance of applied methods in non-built environments should be investigated separately. ;
(Auteur)2 : This report is the final report of the EuroSDR project "Atlas of INSPIRE Implementation Methods". In two two-day workshops and one pre-workshop of the INSPIRE Conference in Krakow, June, 2010 we investigated strategies to implement INSPIRE in several members states. We focused specifically on the relations between the implemented strategy and how successful the INSPIRE implementation is perceived in a specific country. A questionnaire was carried out as well. This report describes the project, presents the conclusions and contains the main deliverables of the project which are: -Two workshop reports - Research agenda for the implementation of INSPIRE -A network of SDI-practitioners and scientists across Europe that are strongly involved in the development of INSPIRE SDI-strategies -Scientific paper publications Scientific paper publications: published IJSDIR article [1] and article in progress for CEUS (Journal for Computers, Environment and Urban Systems) -INSPIRE-Conference pre-conference workshop, abstract and presentation -Key documents collection regarding INSPIRE-implementation -Prototype INSPIRE atlas (see: http://www.spatialist.be)Note de contenu : Registration quality - towards integration of laser scanning and photogrammetry

[Termes IGN] représentation multipleRésumé : (Auteur) Map generalisation is a modelling process in which it is typical that detailed, high dimensional geographic phenomena are reduced down to a set of `higher order', yet more generalized set of phenomena (for example, a large cluster of buildings is reduced to `city'). This process of generalisation necessarily requires us to handle large volumes of data which results in high processing overheads. One way of managing this is to partition the data. When geographically partitioning data, we need to partition in such a way that each partition can be generalized without having to consider regions outside any given partition. The focus of this paper is to explore partitioning and generalisation methodologies that can be applied to digital elevation data - the ambition being to derive generalized descriptions of morphology at the National Scale (for the UK). The paper describes and compares two solutions to this problem, and demonstrates how it is possible to apply generalisation algorithms to national coverages.
