[Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (Auteur) Urban impervious surfaces have been recognized as a significant indicator for various environmental and socio-economic studies. There is an increasingly urgent demand for timely and accurate monitoring of the impervious surfaces with satellite technology from local to global scales. In the past decades, optical remote sensing has been widely employed for this task with various techniques. However, there are still a range of challenges, e.g. handling cloud contamination on optical data. Therefore, the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) was introduced for the challenging task because it is uniquely all-time- and all-weather-capable. Nevertheless, with an increasing number of SAR data applied, the methodology used for impervious surfaces classification remains unchanged from the methods used for optical datasets. This shortcoming has prevented the community from fully exploring the potential of using SAR data for impervious surfaces classification. We proposed a new scheme that is comparable to the well-known and fundamental Vegetation-Impervious surface-Soil (V-I-S) model for mapping urban impervious surfaces. Three scenes of fully polarimetric Radsarsat-2 data for the cities of Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macau were employed to test and validate the proposed methodology. Experimental results indicated that the overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient were 96.00% and 0.8808 in Shenzhen, 93.87% and 0.8307 in Hong Kong and 97.48% and 0.9354 in Macau, indicating the applicability and great potential of the new scheme for impervious surfaces classification using polarimetric SAR data. Comparison with the traditional scheme indicated that this new scheme was able to improve the overall accuracy by up to 4.6% and Kappa coefficient by up to 0.18. [Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (auteur) The aim of this paper was to propose a new methodology for preprocessing and enhancing C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images for the automatic detection of marine oil slicks. The proposed methodology includes three processing levels: preprocessing, thresholding, and binary cleaning. The first level is to correct the heterogeneity of brightness in SAR images caused by the non-Lambertian reflection of the radar signal on the sea surface. This heterogeneity can be justified by: the distance from the nadir (incidence angle effect), the interaction between wind direction and radar pulse, and the wide swath mode. The second level consists of a thresholding step. The third level is to clean the binary output images from noise residues. Several preprocessing and cleaning methods have been tested and evaluated by a qualification engine that compares the automatically detected patches with a training data set of manually detected dark patches. The training data set includes oil slicks and lookalikes. As a result, the “best” preprocessing method that homogenizes the brightness of C-band SAR scenes and optimizes the automatic detection of marine oil slicks is based on an adaptation to the C-band MODel. As for the cleaning process, the tested morphological methods show that small object removal followed by a morphological closing optimizes the automatic detection of marine oil slicks. [Termes IGN] teneur en vapeur d'eauRésumé : (Auteur) Landslide risk assessment based on Differential Interferometric SAR analyses (DInSAR) is associated with a number of error effects. We here approach the problem of assessing landslide risks over mountainous areas, where DInSAR observations are often influenced by orographic effects and inaccurate base topographies by employing a dedicated error compensation. In order to obtain accurate information on surface deformation, we apply corrections for DInSAR interferograms using high-resolution base topography and water vapor information obtained from a satellite radiometer. We observe that the corrected DInSAR output is in accordance with the environmental context as inferred by geological and geomorphological settings. It is feasible to better quantify landslide monitoring schemes whenever high- accuracy atmospheric error maps and a methodology to effectively compensate for external errors in DInSAR interferograms are available. The approach in this study can be further upgraded for future SAR-based assessments and various error correction approaches for even more precise landslide risk assessments. [Termes IGN] TaïwanRésumé : (auteur) Characterizing active faults and quantifying their activity are major concerns in Taiwan, especially following the major Chichi earthquake on 21 September 1999. Among the targets that still remain poorly understood in terms of active tectonics are the Hengchun and Kenting faults (Southern Taiwan). From a geodynamic point of view, the faults affect the outcropping top of the Manila accretionary prism of the Manila subduction zone that runs from Luzon (northern Philippines) to Taiwan. In order to better locate and quantify the location and quantify the activity of the Hengchun Fault, we start from existing geological maps, which we update thanks to the use of two products derived from unmanned aircraft system acquisitions: (1) a very high precision ( Numéro de notice : A2018-239 Affiliation des auteurs : UPEM-LASTIG+Ext (2016-2019) Thématique : IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.5194/nhess-18-829-2018 Date de publication en ligne : 15/03/2018 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.5194/nhess-18-829-2018 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=90191

[Termes IGN] télédétection en hyperfréquenceRésumé : (éditeur) The key importance of radar remote sensing for civil applications has been recognized for decades, and enormous scientific and technical developments have been carried out to further improve SAR sensors and SAR data processing. In recent years, SAR satellite constellations, consisting of two or more satellites, are becoming the “new normal” in SAR remote sensing. The present availability of SAR sensor constellations, such as Cosmo SkyMed, TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X, and the new Copernicus sensors Sentinel-1A and 1B, supply a continuous stream of imagery with a unique short revisit cycle of only six days. Together with many more operational and planned SAR satellite systems, such as Geo-Fen 3 or NASA ISRO SAR (NISAR), this unprecedented amount of high-quality SAR data is suitable for a variety of applications, provided proper data processing methodology are applied. In "Advances in SAR: Sensors, Methodologies, and Applications" advancements in the field of hardware, software, and applications are presented, covering a wide range of topics.
