[Termes IGN] surveillance géologiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The differential interferometric SAR (DInSAR) technique has proved its capability to detect small surface deformations in several types of applications. In this paper, its use as a quantitative subsidence monitoring tool is addressed to. A complete procedure is described, giving emphasis to the algorithms that have a major impact on the quality of the DInSAR results : the calibration of the InSAR geometry based on ground control points, which guarantees a high accuracy of the InSAR geometric model ; a filtering procedure suitable to reduce the atmospheric effects in small-scale subsidences; and a data fusion procedure for multiple observations, which represents a key step to improve the quality of the DInSAR products. The procedure was used in the analysis of a small-scale urban subsidence located in Catalonia, northeastern Spain. The validation of the results, which was based on the comparison with precise and independent reference data, is discussed in detail. [Termes IGN] segmentation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) The automatic reconstruction of buildings for the generation of city models is of great interest for different tasks. Threedimensional information can be directly obtained from both, laser (LIDAR) and radar (InSAR) measurements. The features of both sensors are compared. The data acquisition by SAR is described, with emphasis on the special properties of the interferometric SAR principle. A segmentation approach for building reconstruction is proposed. The results show that building reconstruction is possible from InSAR, but the achievable level of detail cannot compete with LIDAR. The main source of limitation is the inherent sidelooking scene illumination of SAR, giving rise to disturbing phenomena interfering with often large parts of the scene. Geometric constraints for the location and size of such problem areas are derived. To identify areas of unreliable data in SAR images of a builtup area, corresponding elevation data are analysed. The impact of the phenomena layover, shadow and dominant scattering at building locations is considered. For this task, a hybrid elevation reference is required. The buildings and the surrounding ground are represented as CAD planes. Natural objects like trees and bushes remain in the raster representation. [Termes IGN] image radarRésumé : (Auteur) Due to the enormous quantity of radar images acquired by satellites and through shuttle missions, there is an evident need for efficient automatic analysis tools. This paper describes unsupervised classification of radar images in the framework of hidden Markov models and generalized mixture estimation. Hidden Markov chain models, applied to a Hilbert-Peano scan of the image, constitute a fast and robust alternative to hidden Markov random field models for spatial regularization of image analysis problems, even though the latter provide a finer and more intuitive modeling of spatial relationships. We here compare the two approaches and show that they can be combined in a way that conserves their respective advantages. We also describe how the distribution families and parameters of classes with constant or textured radar reflectivity can he determined through generalized mixture estimation. Sample results obtained on real and simulated radar images are presented. [Termes IGN] SRTMRésumé : (Auteur) For 11 days in february 2000, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) successfully recorded by interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data of the entire land mass of the earth between 60° N and 57° S. The data acquired in C-and X-bands are processed into the first global elevation models (DEMs) at 1 arc sec resolution, by NASA-JPL and German aerospace center (DLR), respectively. From the perspective of the STRM-X system, we give in this paper an overview of the mission and the DEM production, as well as an evaluation of the DEM product quality. Special emphasis is on challenges and peculiarities of the processing that arose from the unique designn of the STRM system, which has been the first single-pass interferometer in space.
