[Termes IGN] interféromètrie par radar à antenne synthétiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper adresses the problem of filtering interferometric sysnthetic aperture radar (IFSAR) signals in presence of nonplanar topography to mitigate geometrical decorrelation effects. The problem is space-variant. We assume knowledge about the scene topography and derive an optimal, minimum mean square error (MMSE), filtering procedure. The algorithms is flexible and, beside the standard stripmap-stripmap interferometry, it may be applied to IFSAR data acquired in any operative mode. For instance in scan-scan, scan-strip, and scan-spot interferometry. The scene topography contribution may be either derived from an external rough digital elevation model (DEM) or directly estimated from the SAR data. The filtering technique is extended to the azimuth direction to account for possible Doppler centroid decorrelation. Experimental results carried out on real data confirm the variability of the theory and show that filtering procedure allows us to obtain a reduction of the interferometric noise content. Its gain is particulary marked in the cases of steep topography, where application of the standard common band filters could deteriorate the signal quality, or for large Doppler centroid shifts between the two acquisitions. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Threedimensional mapping products in the form of DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) have become much more accessible in recent years, in part due to the implementation of LIDAR and IFSAR technologies. While there is considerable familiarity with one technology or the other, they are not often examined in terms of their mutually similar characteristics or equally those that are dissimilar. The purpose of this paper is to summarise those factors which will ultimately help to determine whether one technology or the other is appropriate for a particular application. We present two examples to illustrate and suggest that in many ways they can be viewed as complementary rather than competitive technologies. [Termes IGN] Terre (planète)Résumé : (Auteur) DLR's Xband interferometric SAR system onboard the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) has been flown successfully in February 2000 and acquired 3660 Gbytes of raw data to be processed to a near global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the Earth with an absolute height accuracy of +16m. Before starting the operational processing deferent kinds of calibration and motion compensation activities based on the attitude and position data and recorded instrument housekeeping data have to be performed. The preliminary results achieved over ocean test areas show the absolute height error and the relative error from the radar noise within specification. The processing and archiving facility is operational and the complete data set will be processed and available to the customers till mid 2003. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (INSAR) and laser altimeter (LIDAR) systems are both widely used for mapping topography. INSAR can map extended areas but accuracies are limited over vegetated regions, primarily because the observations are not measurements of true surface topography. The measurements correspond to a height above the true surface that depends on both the sensor and the vegetation. Conversely, topography from LIDAR is very accurate, but coverage is limited to smaller regions. We demonstrate how these technologies can be used synergistically. First, we determine surface elevations and vegetation heights from dual-baseline INSAR data by inverting an INSAR scattering model. We then combine sparse LIDAR observations with the INSAR inversion results to improve the estimates of ground elevations and vegetation heights. This is accomplished via a multiresolution Kalman Filter that provides both the estimates and a measure of their uncertainty at each location. Combining data from the two sensors provides estimates that are more accurate than those obtained from INSAR alone yet have dense, extensive coverage, which is difficult to obtain with LIDAR. Contributions of this work include 1) combining physical modeling with multiscale estimation to accommodate non-linear measurement-state relationships and 2) improving estimates of ground elevations and vegetation heights for remote sensing applications.
