The starting point can be placed in the method introduced by Harada and Fukushima for the non-linear analysis of time series, which allows the recursive detection of frequencies and their associated amplitudes and phases as well as the secular mixed Fourier terms when found in the signal. That method is extended in different ways, allowing the treatment of series affected by auto correlated noise with a power law, either evenly or unevenly spaced. This is made both at the level of frequency detection and non-linear fitting. Reduction of the computational overhead is also obtained. The theoretical work is accompanied by the developing of comprehensive and specialized software for such non-linear harmonic analysis of time series using the MATLAB programming language. Much of the tools we can find today for analyzing these periodic time series are valid only for certain types whereas the programs in the thesis can be applied to oddly spaced series in the presence of combinations of white and flicker noise. The new methods and routines are used for analyzing some interesting series as those ones describing the celestial pole offsets, the geocentre variations due to the redistribution of water mass on the Earth's surface, the excess of the length of day, continental water flux and the positions of GPS stations, among others. We estimate harmonic models that explain each one of these phenomena in the considered time domain and allow us to draw conclusions of their behavior. Note de contenu : Agradecimientos

[Termes IGN] tâche image d'un pointRésumé : (auteur) This paper proposes a method to estimate the local sharpness of an optical system through the wavelet-based analysis of a large set of images it acquired. Assuming a space-invariant distribution of image features, such as in the aerial photography context, the proposed approach produces a sharpness map of the imaging device over 16x16 pixels blocks that enables, for instance, the detection of optical defects and the qualification of the mosaicking of multiple sensor images into a larger composite image. The proposed analysis is based on accumulating of the edge maps corresponding to the first levels of the Haar Transform of each image of the dataset, following the intuition that statistically, each pixel will see the same image structures. We propose a calibration method to transform these accumulated edge maps into a sharpness map by approximating the local PSF (Point Spread Function) with a Gaussian blur. [Termes IGN] tunnelRésumé : (Auteur) This paper examines the feasibility of underground-focusing spotlight synthetic aperture radar (UF-SL-SAR) systems for tunnel detection applications. A general formulation is reviewed for generating UF-SL-SAR imaging by using multiple frequencies across a wide band and by focusing in space to subsurface points using well-known ray refraction at the nominal ground surface. A full-wave finite-difference frequency-domain model is used to consider wave propagation in realistic soil with loss- and frequency-dependent dielectric constant and a randomly rough ground surface, both of which serve to obscure and distort the returned tunnel target signal. Imaging results are presented for two representative soil scenarios: dry sand and moist clay loam. Considering the ground surface ray refraction for focusing greatly improves the SAR image relative to conventional SAR focusing at the ground surface. Using UF-SL-SAR, a small shallow tunnel is reasonably imaged for the sand case, despite the roughness of the ground interface. However, for higher conductivity moist clay loam, the clutter from the rough surface overwhelms the significantly attenuated target signal, which must propagate through the lossy intervening soil. It is demonstrated that, despite ideal focusing, the tunnel is successfully imaged only for the sand case. [Termes IGN] scène urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Terrestrial geolocalized images are nowadays widely used on the Internet, mainly in urban areas, through immersion services such as Google Street View. On the long run, we seek to enhance the visualization of these images. For that purpose, radiometric corrections must be performed to free them from illumination conditions at the time of acquisition. Given the simultaneously acquired 3D geometric model of the scene with LIDAR or vision techniques, we face an inverse problem where the illumination and the geometry of the scene are known and the reflectance of the scene is to be estimated. Our main contribution is the introduction of a symbolic ray-tracing rendering to generate parametric images, for quick evaluation and comparison with the acquired images. The proposed approach is then based on an iterative estimation of the reflectance parameters of the materials, using a single rendering pre-processing. We validate the method on synthetic data with linear BRDF models and discuss the limitations of the proposed approach with more general non-linear BRDF models.
