[Termes IGN] télémétrie laser terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) 3D laser scanning is a powerful measurement technology for obtaining 3D coordinates of object points at a speed of up to 5,000 points per second. But surveyors see lack of scanner versatility and unfamiliar workflow as limiting factors. Today, increased portability and robustness and adapted workflow enable surveyors to easily incorporate 3D scanning into their portfolio. A short learning curve allows for increased productivity and creates new business opportunities. Imagery of a 13 km2 study area in the United Kingdom was captured using an ADS40. The study area was flown with the ADS40 at four different altitudes with resulting imagery at ground sampled distances of 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm. Ground points, comprising natural features distributed throughout the study area, were surveyed using GPS methods. In addition, RC30 film imagery and data from a lidar survey conducted using an Optech ALTM 2050 airborne laser scanner was also available for use in validation. The ADS40 imagery of the study area was processed using standard commercial software and a number of tests were conducted to geometrically assess the photogrammetric performance of imagery from the sensor at various stages throughout the photogrammetric workflow. Experiments examined the influence of ground control points (GCPs) in bundle block adjustment and the performance of digital elevation models (DEMs) resulting from the processing of ADS40 imagery. This independent research has permitted a series of initial conclusions to be drawn and preliminary recommendations to be made for optimum deployment of the ADS40 sensor under certain operational conditions. For example, it is shown that, despite advances made in direct positioning and orientation using integrated satellite and inertial surveying, the importing of GCPs into the block adjustment process remains a critical issue influencing the achievable accuracy during photogrammetric measurement. [Termes IGN] télémètreRésumé : (Auteur) Probably the most important step in the installation of a GPS system is mounting the GPS antenna. One should distinguish between mounting the base and rover. The actual antenna installation has two main aspects: the mounting of the antenna on the survey platform (survey rod, tripod or object) and the position of the survey platform relative to the world. This article focuses on the installation of an RTK base station with a radio telemetry link. [Termes IGN] Wyoming (Etats-Unis)Résumé : (Auteur) Ecological assessment of ground cover by conventional on-the-ground point sampling is labor intensive, expensive, and biased by access. Historically, motion blur has prevented high-resolution aerial photography from being used for ground cover measurements. To reduce motion blur we used a fixed-wing, 225-kg (empty weight) airplane flown at 72 km/hr ground speed 100 in above ground level with both a modified Hulcher 70 mm camera (500mm lens, Kodak Aerocolor HS SO-846 film, 1/4,000-second shutter speed), and a Canon 11. 1 mega-pixel, automatic, digital single lens reflex, color camera (420 mm focal-length lens). The resulting very-large scale aerial (VLSA) photography had resolutions of 5.0 and 2.1 mm GSD (Ground Sample Distance) for the scanned film and digital-camera images, respectively. Motion blur was minimal. The cost for obtaining 450 VLSA photographs over a 70,800-ha watershed was $0.07 ha. We found our methods well adapted for extensive aerial surveys to monitor the ecological condition of rangeland watersheds.
