It is formed by the confluence of three transboundary rivers - Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna. Flooding induced by large seasonal continental discharge, strong tide, and frequent deadly storm surges, regularly strikes this densely populated (density > 1000 person/km2), low-lying coastal region ( Note de contenu : 1. [Termes IGN] triangulation de DelaunayRésumé : (auteur) We present an out-of-core and distributed surface reconstruction algorithm which scales efficiently on arbitrarily large point clouds (with optical centres) and produces a 3D watertight triangle mesh representing the surface of the underlying scene. Surface reconstruction from a point cloud is a difficult problem and existing state of the art approaches are usually based on complex pipelines making use of global algorithms (i.e. Delaunay triangulation, graph-cut optimisation). For one of these approaches, we investigate the distribution of all the steps (in particular Delaunay triangulation and graph-cut optimisation) in order to propose a fully scalable method. We show that the problem can be tiled and distributed across a cloud or a cluster of PCs by paying a careful attention to the interactions between tiles and using Spark computing framework. We confirm the efficiency of this approach with an in-depth quantitative evaluation and the successful reconstruction of a surface from a very large data set which combines more than 350 million aerial and terrestrial LiDAR points. [Termes IGN] visualisation de donnéesRésumé : (auteur) This paper proposes elevation models to promote, evaluate, and compare various terrain representation techniques. Our goal is to increase the reproducibility of terrain rendering algorithms and techniques across different scales and landscapes. We introduce elevation models of varying terrain types, available to the user at no cost, with minimal common data imperfections such as missing data values, resampling artifacts, and seams. Three multiscale elevation models are available, each consisting of a set of elevation grids, centered on the same geographic location, with increasing cell sizes and spatial extents. We also propose a collection of single-scale elevation models of archetypal landforms including folded ridges, a braided riverbed, active and stabilized sand dunes, and a volcanic caldera. An inventory of 78 publications with a total of 155 renderings illustrating terrain visualization techniques guided the selection of landform types in the elevation models. The benefits of using the proposed elevation models include straightforward comparison of terrain representation methods across different publications and better documentation of the source data, which increases the reproducibility of terrain representations. Note de contenu : Introduction
