[Termes IGN] longueur d'ondeRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a new variational gradient-based fusion method for visible and short-wave infrared (swm) imagery. The proposed method enables spatial enhancement and dehazing of visible imagery. Integrating gradients from SWIR imagery into visible imagery produces a single image with true color and sharp gradients. A constraint based on band correlation is included to improve the enhancement and implement dehazing. The band correlation is according to the quantitative relationship between the wavelength and the atmospheric effect caused by Rayleigh scattering. In this study, both clear and hazy Landsat ETM+ images are used in the experiments. By visual assessment, the gradient of the fused image is more salient than that of the original image, and the true color is well preserved. With the inclusion of the band correlation constraint, the proposed fusion method yields almost haze-free results. Quantitatively, the Metric Q of the fused images is significantly higher than that of the original images; the largest increase of the Metric Q in the experimental results is from 0.0114 to 0.0611. Moreover, for the results of the proposed method, the Metric Q increase in the visible bands declines from blue band to red band. [Termes IGN] vergerRésumé : (Auteur) Spectral information alone is often not sufficient to distinguish certain terrain classes such as permanent crops like orchards, vineyards, and olive groves from other types of vegetation. However, instances of these classes possess distinctive spatial structures that can be observable in detail in very high spatial resolution images. This paper proposes a novel unsupervised algorithm for the detection and segmentation of orchards. The detection step uses a texture model that is based on the idea that textures are made up of primitives (trees) appearing in a near-regular repetitive arrangement (planting patterns). The algorithm starts with the enhancement of potential tree locations by using multi-granularity isotropic filters. Then, the regularity of the planting patterns is quantified using projection profiles of the filter responses at multiple orientations. The result is a regularity score at each pixel for each granularity and orientation. Finally, the segmentation step iteratively merges neighboring pixels and regions belonging to similar planting patterns according to the similarities of their regularity scores and obtains the boundaries of individual orchards along with estimates of their granularities and orientations. Extensive experiments using Ikonos and QuickBird imagery as well as images taken from Google Earth show that the proposed algorithm provides good localization of the target objects even when no sharp boundaries exist in the image data. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) We present a novel and robust method for modeling cities from 3D-point data. Our algorithm provides a more complete description than existing approaches by reconstructing simultaneously buildings, trees and topologically complex grounds. A major contribution of our work is the original way of modeling buildings which guarantees a high generalization level while having semantized and compact representations. Geometric 3D-primitives such as planes, cylinders, spheres or cones describe regular roof sections, and are combined with mesh-patches that represent irregular roof components. The various urban components interact through a non-convex energy minimization problem in which they are propagated under arrangement constraints over a planimetric map. Our approach is experimentally validated on complex buildings and large urban scenes of millions of points, and is compared to state-of-the-art methods. [Termes IGN] reliefRésumé : (Auteur) User generated content such as the georeferenced images and their associated tags found in Flickr provides us with opportunities to explore how the world is described in the non-scientific, everyday language used by contributors. Geomorphometry, the quantitative study of landforms, provides methods to classify Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) according to attributes such as slope and convexity. In this article we compare the terms used in Flickr and Geograph in Great Britian to describe georeferenced images to a quantitative, unsupervised classification of a DEM, using a well established method, and explore the variation of terms across geomorphometric classes and space. Anthropogenic terms are primarily associated with more gentle slopes, while terms which refer to objects such as mountains and waterfalls are typical of steeper slopes. Terms vary both across and within classes, and the source of the user generated content has an influence on the type of term used with Geograph, a collection which aims to document the geography of Great Britain, dominated by features which might be observed on a map.
