[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) This paper explores the feasibility of integrating GPS and remote sensing data into a GIS database through rectification of satellite images of both urban and rural areas using uncorrected GPS coordinates. A GPS receiver was used to log the coordinates of 25 ground control points (GCPs) in a rural area and 20 GCPs in an urban area. Their coordinates were also read from topographic maps. Both sets of coordinates were used to rectify Landsat TM, and SPOT panchromatic (PAN) and multispectral (XL) images. It is found that none of the GPS coordinates are able to achieve an acceptable accuracy level of integration unless some inaccurate GCPs are excluded. The percentage of useable GCPs varies from less than 50 to nearly 90, depending on the spatial resolution of the image and the ease of GCP identification. On average, the difficulty in identifying GCPs on the ground and the image degrades integration accuracy by up to one pixel. [Termes IGN] télémétrie laser aéroportéRésumé : (Auteur) We present a rigorous method for estimating some of the calibration parameters in airborne laser scanning (ALS), namely the three bore-sight angles and the range-finder offset. The technique is based on expressing the system calibration parameters within the direct-georeferencing equation separately for each target point, and conditioning a group of points to lie on a common surface of a known form such as a plane. However, the assumed a priori information about á chosen planar features is only their form not the spatial orientation or position. Thus, the 4·á plane parameters are estimated together with the calibration parameters in a combined adjustment model that makes use of GPS/INS-derived position and orientation as well as LiDAR range and encoder angle as observations. To make the approach practical when working with voluminous ALS and GPS/INS data, the contribution of each laser point to the normal equations is formed sequentially. The discussions focus on practical examples with data from a continuously-rotating scanner that reveal the conditions under which almost complete de-correlation between the estimated parameters occurs. In such a case, all bore-sight angles are determined with accuracy that is several times superior to the system noise level. Given sufficiently strong geometry, the presented method is shown to be not only accurate but also very robust in terms of convergence. When appropriate, the method is applicable for calibration of additional systematic effects such as laser-beam encoder offsets or scale factor with minimal modification to the functional model. [Termes IGN] UltraCamRésumé : (Auteur) Within the paper a comparative quantification of the spatial image resolution for large-format digital airborne cameras will be presented. For this purpose, imagery of the Leica ADS40, the Intergraph Z/I-imaging DMC and the Vexcel UltraCamD were examined. The respective spatial resolutions are represented by means of the point spread function, which can be measured easily and reliably at image edges. Thus, images of test patterns like a Siemens star were used. In addition to the evaluation of the original images as they are provided by the camera systems, the potential benefit of a resolution improvement by image restoration is demonstrated. Therefore, a linear restoring finite impulse response filter is applied. Usually, colour image acquisition by digital aerial camera systems is realised by combining data from the multi-spectral module with higher resolution panchromatic imagery. The quality of this pan-sharpening process is presented in the final part of the paper. For this purpose, the potential degradation of colour information by this process was quantified for the three tested camera systems in addition to the resolution measurements. [Termes IGN] prise de vue terrestreRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, we address the orientation of ground-level motion imagery captured by sensors roaming in an urban area. We investigate the use of building façades (instead of traditional points), as matching features for ground-level motion imagery orientation. We assume a situation where few images in our sequence are already absolutely oriented, and present a novel approach to orient all remaining in between image sequences relative to them. This innovative version of dependent orientation allows us to propagate orientation information within sequences of ground level imagery, establishing a novel orientation scheme. Experimental results show accuracies on the order of 0.18 to 0.29 degrees in rotation estimation, and 0.17 to 0.29 meters in camera position determination.
