[Termes IGN] objet géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) We compared the efficiency and robustness of two radiometric correction techniques applied to six SPOT-5 scenes used for assessing environmental changes of Camargue wetlands: the 6S atmospheric model and 86 pseudo-invariant features (PIFs) found in deep water, pine trees, roofs and sand. The few PIFs were selected subjectively following the low number of potentially invariant sectors available on the scenes. Both approaches provided a similar radiometric variation (6S = 4.3 percent; PIFs = 4.0 percent). The latter increased from water to pine trees, to roofs and sand, with five reference points per feature being identified as cost effective. The withdrawing of variant features among the PIFs across dates or points caused a significant decrease in radiometric variation, especially with 6S (6S = 2.8 percent, PIFs = 3.4 percent). As many as 31 point per type of PIFs would be necessary to provide a radiometric variation that is not significantly different from that obtained with 6S, whereas nearly 300 and 4,000 points per feature would be required to provide similar or better results than the 6S code, respectively. Use of a few PIFs remains a valid approach, as long as the invariant sectors cover a wide range of brightness and are represented by objects of which the radiometric variation has preliminarily been tested. [Termes IGN] restauration d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Many remote-sensing satellites can obtain images in multispectral and panchromatic bands. By fusing low-resolution multispectral and high-resolution panchromatic images, one can obtain high-resolution multispectral images. In this paper, an image fusion algorithm based on image restoration is proposed to combine multispectral and panchromatic images. For remote-sensing satellites, the wavelength of the panchromatic band usually covers the wavelengths of the multispectral bands. This relationship between the two kinds of images is useful for fusion. In our approach, the low-resolution multispectral images are first resampled to the scale of the high-resolution panchromatic image. The relationship between these two kinds of images is then used to restore the resampled multispectral images. That is, the resampled multispectral images are modeled as the noisy blurred versions of the ideal multispectral images, and the high-resolution panchromatic image is modeled as a linear combination of the ideal multispectral images plus the observation noise. The ideal high-resolution multispectral images are then estimated based on the panchromatic and the resampled multispectral images. A closed-form solution of the fused images is derived here. Experiments show that the proposed fusion algorithm works effectively in integrating multispectral and panchromatic images. [Termes IGN] uniformisation d'histogrammeRésumé : (Auteur) Atmospheric haze variations, temporal differences, atmosphere’s or ground surfaces’ and Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF), are well-known sources of radiometric heterogeneities in aerial images. It is necessary to correct them for many applications, such as the generation of large seamless mosaics of orthoimages, or land-cover classifications. This contribution describes a method for equalizing digital aerial images based on a parametric, semi-empirical radiometric model. The model’s parameters are computed through a global least-squares minimization process, using radiometric tie-points in overlapping areas between images. The method may be called a “radiometric aerial triangulation” since its principle is quite similar to a standard aerial triangulation. It leads to a relative equalization between images, keeping their original contrast and color information. The method has been successfully applied operationally to more than forty projects comprising three to four thousands digital images each, for the creation of orthoimages over France. The results are good as long as atmospheric conditions are favorable and stable.
