[Termes IGN] Wuhan (Chine)Résumé : (Auteur) This study proposes a novel morphological building index (MBl) for automatic building extraction from high-resolu-tion remotely sensed imagery. The basic idea of MBl is to build a relationship between the implicit characteristics of buildings (e.g., brightness, size, and contrast) and the properties of morphological operators (e.g., reconstruction, granulometry, and directionality). Buildings are extracted by performing a threshold on the MBl feature image. Subsequently, the shape features, such as area and length width ratio, are used to refine the binary building map. In order to validate the proposed algorithm, a comparative study was performed between MBl, a recently developed texture-derived built-up presence index (PanTex), and the widely used object-based approach. Experiments were conducted on a multispectral GeoEye-1 image, covering a study area of 5.5 km by 5.3 km in Hongshan district of Wuhan, central China. In experiments, MBl achieved satisfactory results and outperformed other algorithms in terms of both accuracies and visual inspection. The effect: of parameters of mbi were also analyzed in detail, includ-ing directions, sizes and the binaryzation threshold. [Termes IGN] temps réelRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a method for object detection with sub-pixel accuracy in digital images satisfying real-time applications. The method uses an approximation of the level-set-based contour evolution, which applies only integer operations in a fast two-cycle algorithm to achieve real-time performance. Level-set-based contour evolution forms a part of the geometric active contour process, which combines image data and a priori geometric knowledge of an object to be evolved over an image towards the object border. The algorithm avoids the solution of partial differential equations. Instead only integer operations are applied and the contour evolution is performed by using a two-cycle algorithm. The proposed method for object detection with sub-pixel accuracy refines the pixel-accurate result of the level-set-based contour evolution algorithm by using a fast parabolic fitting mechanism. Sub-pixel accuracy of the resulting object contours is achieved by adjusting every contour point towards the nearby maximum of the image gradient. Real-time performance can be provided because the adjustment is performed only once after the contour evolution. Experimental results with images from industry, photogrammetry, remote sensing and medicine show the functionality and applicability of this method to several fields of work. In addition, the experiments are evaluated by applying quality measures for the geometric accuracy and the run time. [Termes IGN] sommet (relief)Résumé : (Auteur) The French National Mapping Agency (IGN) plans to renew all the topographic maps at 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 scale. The New Base Map project has been launched in order to produce a flow line for topographic maps from a vector geographic database, and decrease costs of topographic map production. The project aims also to automate the extraction of contour lines, and take advantage of the high-resolution digital terrain model (DTM) data recently available in the agency. These data come from automatic correlation, or they are produced using new sensors (lidar or radar). The high-resolution DTM is a breakthrough to extract cartographic elements such as the cartographic contour lines, the points of mountain pass and the summits. In a precedent paper, we presented a research for producing cartographic contour lines from DTM. Since then, the method has been developed and implemented at the IGN in order to have a production tool for the contour lines. The first part of this paper provides technical details regarding the extraction of contour lines with the problems resolved during the implementation. The second part will introduce our method for extracting the mountain pass and summits from high-resolution DTM. The final section will include the results and summarize the findings. [Termes IGN] pansharpening (fusion d'images)Résumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a novel approach based on multiobjective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) is presented for panchromatic (Pan) sharpening of a multispectral (MS) image. This new method could transfer spatial details of the pan image into a high-resolution version of the MS image, while color information from the low-resolution MS image is well preserved. The pan and MS images are locally different because of different resolutions, and therefore we cannot directly combine them in the spatial domain. For this reason, we generate two initial results, which are more appropriate for a weighted combination. First, the pan and the MS images are histogram matched. Then we use the shiftable contourlet transform (SCT) to decompose the histogram-matched pan and MS images. The SCT is a new shiftable and modified version of the contourlet transform. In this step, an algorithm based on the SCT is used to generate two initial results of the high-resolution MS images. Our objective is to produce two modified high-resolution MS images, in which one has high spatial similarity to the pan image and the other one has high radiometric quality in each band. Therefore, we have used two different fusion rules to integrate the high-frequency contourlet coefficients of the pan and MS images to generate two initial results of high-resolution MS image or the pan-sharpened (PS) image. Finally, we can find the optimal PS image by applying the MOPSO algorithm and using the two initial PS results. Specifically, the PS image is obtained via a weighted combination of the two initial results, in which the weights are locally estimated via a multiobjective particle swarm optimization algorithm to generate a PS image with high spatial and radiometric qualities. Based on experimental results obtained, the produced pan-sharpened image also has good spectral quality. The efficiency of the proposed method is tested by performing pan-sharpening of high-resolution (Quickbird and Wordview2) and medium-resolution (Landsat-7 ETM +) datasets. Extensive comparisons with the state-of-the-art pan-sharpening algorithms indicate that our new method provides improved subjective and objective results. [Termes IGN] précision des donnéesRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a novel geodesic active contour (GAC) model based on an edge detector for rapid detection of water bodies from spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery with high speckle noise. The original edge indicator function based on gradients is replaced by an edge indicator function based on the ratio of exponentially weighted averages (ROEWA) operator. Thus, the capability of edge detection and the accuracy of locating edges are greatly improved, which makes the model more appropriate for SAR images. In addition, an enhancing term is added to the original model’s energy function in order to boost the strength for the contour’s evolution. An unconditionally stable additive operator splitting (AOS) scheme and a fast algorithm for re-initialization of the level set function are adopted, which not only enhances the model’s stability, but also speeds up the model’s convergence remarkably. The experimental results on simulated and real RADARSAT-1/-2 images show its efficiency and accuracy.
