[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) The monitoring of the environment's status at continental scale involves the integration of information derived by the analysis of multiple, complex, multidisciplinary, and large-scale phenomena. Thus, there is a need to define synthetic Environmental Indicators (EIs) that concisely represent these phenomena in a manner suitable for decision-making. This research proposes a flexible system to define EIs based on a soft fusion of contributing environmental factors derived from multi-source spatial data (mainly Earth Observation data). The flexibility is twofold: the EI can be customized based on the available data, and the system is able to cope with a lack of expert knowledge. The proposal allows a soft quantifier-guided fusion strategy to be defined, as specified by the user through a linguistic quantifier such as 'most of'. The linguistic quantifiers are implemented as Ordered Weighted Averaging operators. The proposed approach is applied in a case study to demonstrate the periodical computation of anomaly indicators of the environmental status of Africa, based on a 7-year time series of dekadal Earth Observation datasets. Different experiments have been carried out on the same data to demonstrate the flexibility and robustness of the proposed method. Degree of overlaps between geospatial categories, especially those based on geospatial actions concepts and geospatial enitity concepts, need to be specified in ontologies. Conventional geospatial ontologies do not enable specification of such information, and this presents difficulties in ontology reasoning for practical purposes. We present a framework to encode probabilistic information in geospatial ontologies based on the BayesOWL approach. The approach enables rich inferences such as most similar concepts within and across ontologies. This paper presents two case studies of using road-network ontologies to demonstrate the framework for probabilistic geospatial ontologies. Besides inferences within the probabilistic ontologies, we discuss inferences about most similar concepts across ontologies based on the assumption that geospatial action concepts are invariable. The results of such machine-based mappings of most similar concepts are verified with mappings of concepts extracted from human subjects testing. The practical uses of probabilistic geospatial ontologies for concept matching and measuring naming heterogeneities between two ontologies are discussed. Based on our experiments, we propose such a framework for probabilistic geospatial ontologies as an advancement of the proposal to develop semantic reference systems. [Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : Auteur) Growing demand for efficient land use above and below the ground motivates the transition of cadastre and land-management systems from traditional two-dimensional systems to three-dimensional ones. This transition is required especially in sprawling urban areas that are turning into megacities. A major concern in realizing the 3D cadastre vision is the development of efficient methods for attaching the third dimension to the existing 2D systems. In this regard, airborne laser technology that offers direct acquisition of dense and accurate 3D data appears to be the optimal means for this objective. Integration of surface data into objects and shapes, however, requires handling discrepancies between both datasets, which in turn can lead to incorrect assignment of height information. We present herein a methodology for fusing airborne laser-scanning-derived data into existing 2D cadastral systems. We demonstrate this integration in urban environments comprising high-rise buildings and open areas. Analysis of the data sources shows the necessity for such transformation, while the results demonstrate the appropriateness of the proposed fusion concept.
