[Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (Auteur) Lidar data have become a major source of digital terrain information for use in many applications including hydraulic modeling and flood plane mapping. Based on established relationships between sampling intensity and error, nominal post-spacing likely contributes significantly to the error budget. Post-spacing is also a major cost factor during lidar data collection. This research presents methods for establishing a relationship between nominal post-spacing and its effects on hydraulic modeling for flood zone delineation. Lidar data collected at a low post-spacing (approximately 1 to 2 m) over a piedmont study area in North Carolina was systematically decimated to simulate datasets with sequentially higher post-spacing values. Using extensive first-order ground survey information, the accuracy of each DEM derived from these lidar datasets was assessed and reported. Hydraulic analyses were performed utilizing standard engineering practices and modeling software (HEC-RAS). All input variables were held constant in each model run except for the topographic information from the decimated lidar datasets. The results were compared to a hydraulic analysis performed on the un-decimated reference dataset. The sensitivity of the primary model outputs to the variation in nominal post-spacing is reported. The results indicate that base flood elevation does not statistically change over the post-spacing values tested. Conversely, flood zone boundary mapping was found to be sensitive to variations in post-spacing. [Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) While the business intelligence sector, involving data warehouses and online analytical processing (OLAP) technologies, is experiencing strong growth in the IT marketplace, relatively little attention has been devoted to the problem of utilizing such tools in conjunction with GIS. This study contributes to the development of this research area by examining the issues involved in the design and implementation of an integrated data warehouse and GIS system that delivers analytical OLAP and mapping results in real-time across the Web. The case study chosen utilizes individual records from the US 1880 population census, which have recently been made available by the North Atlantic Population Project. Although historical datasets of this kind present a number of challenges for data warehousing, the results indicate that the integrated approach adopted offers a much more flexible and powerful analytical methodology for this kind of large social science dataset than has hitherto been available. [Termes IGN] réseau socialRésumé : (Auteur) Spatial-Data Sharing (SDS) is a crucial aspect of spatial-data infrastructures. This paper introduces Social-Network Analysis to research on SDS. By mapping out relationships among social actors using Social-Network Analysis, the collective properties of SDS in organizations can be investigated. Previous theoretical approaches have focused exclusively on individual behaviour. This paper attempts to expand this focus and applies Social-Network Analysis in a study of SDS in a project of the Egyptian Survey Authority. It concentrates on the emerging pattern of SDS between social actors in the organization and their perceptions and attitudes. Social-Network Analysis results show that SDS in this organization corresponds strongly to the existing hierarchy in the organization. Individual beliefs and perceptions of SDS show patterns that correspond strongly to the network structure. Project leaders are central in the SDS network and optimistic about SDS. Workers lower in the organization feel they have less control and express more concern about constraints regarding SDS than workers higher up in the organization. The paper shows that Social-Network Analysis can be a useful tool to study SDS and complements approaches to individual behaviour. Social-Network Analysis could be expanded to study inter-organizational SDS, could be implemented with digital technology, and could be refined to distinguish behaviour and networks according to different information types.
