[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) It is widely acknowledged that the integration of BIM and GIS data is a crucial step forward for future 3D city modelling, but most of the research conducted so far has covered only the high-level and semantic aspects of GIS-BIM integration. This paper presents the results of the GeoBIM project, which tackled three integration problems focussing instead on aspects involving geometry processing: (i) the automated processing of complex architectural IFC models; (ii) the integration of existing GIS subsoil data in BIM; and (iii) the georeferencing of BIM models for their use in GIS software. All the problems have been studied using real world models and existing datasets made and used by practitioners in The Netherlands. For each problem, this paper exposes in detail the issues faced, proposed solutions, and recommendations for a more successful integration. [Termes IGN] TwitterRésumé : (Auteur) Recent years have witnessed an explosion of geospatial data, especially in the form of Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI). As a prominent example, OpenStreetMap (OSM) creates a free editable map of the world from a large number of contributors. On the other hand, social media platforms such as Twitter or Instagram supply dynamic social feeds at population level. As much of such data is geo-tagged, there is a high potential on integrating social media with OSM to enrich OSM with semantic annotations, which will complement existing objective description oriented annotations to provide a broader range of annotations. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive framework on integrating social media data and VGI data to derive knowledge about geographical objects, specifically, top relevant annotations from tweets for objects in OSM. We first integrate geo-tagged tweets with OSM data with scalable spatial queries running on MapReduce. We propose a frequency based method for annotating boundary based geographic objects (a polygon), and a probability based method for annotating point based geographic objects (Latitude and Longitude), with consideration of noise. We evaluate our methods using a large geo-tagged tweets corpus and representative geographic objects from OSM, which demonstrates promising results through ground-truth comparison and case studies. We are able to produce up to 80% correct names for geographical objects and discover implicitly relevant information, such as popular exhibitions of a museum, the nicknames or visitors’ impression to a tourism attraction. [Termes IGN] traitement de données localiséesRésumé : (auteur) The latest developments in the field of digital humanities have increasingly enabled the construction of large data sets which can be easily accessed and used. These data sets often contain indirect spatial information, such as historical addresses. Historical geocoding is the process of transforming indirect spatial information into direct locations which can be placed on a map, thus allowing for spatial analysis and cross-referencing. There are many geocoders that work efficiently for current addresses. However, these do not tackle temporal information, and usually follow a strict hierarchy (country, city, street, house number, etc.) which is difficult—if not impossible—to use with historical data. Historical data is filled with uncertainty (pertaining to temporal, textual, and positional accuracy, as well as to the reliability of historical sources) which can neither be ignored nor entirely resolved. Our open source, open data, and extensible solution for geocoding is based on extracting a large number of simple gazetteers composed of geohistorical objects, from historical maps. Geocoding a historical address becomes the process of finding one or several geohistorical objects in the gazetteers which best match the historical address searched by the user. The matching criteria are customisable, weighted, and include several dimensions (fuzzy string, fuzzy temporal, level of detail, positional accuracy). Since our goal is to facilitate historical work, we also put forward web-based user interfaces which help geocode (one address or batch mode) and display results over current or historical maps. Geocoded results can then be checked and edited collaboratively (no source is modified). The system was tested on the city of Paris, France, for the 19th and 20th centuries. It showed high response rates and worked quickly enough to be used interactively. Reliability, translating into the ability to detect gross errors in the observations and higher certainty of the obtained point position, is an important network characteristic. The principal way to provide appropriate network reliability is to acquire a suitably large number of redundant observations. Optimisation of the observation accuracy harmonisation procedure allowing for the acquisition of an appropriate level of reliability through modification of the observation a priori standard deviations is the focus of this study. Parameterisation of the accuracy harmonisation is proposed. Furthermore, the influence of the individual parameter operation on the effectiveness of the harmonisation procedure is tested. Based on the results of the tests an optimal set of harmonisation parameters which guarantees the maximal efficiency of the harmonisation algorithm is proposed. The growing developments in geographic information retrieval and temporal information retrieval techniques have given new ways to explore digital text archives for spatio‐temporal data. The question is how to retrieve the answers from the text documents. This work contributes to a better understanding of spatio‐temporal information extraction from text documents. Natural language processing techniques were used to develop an information extraction approach using the GATE language processing software. The developed framework uses gazetteer matching, spatio‐temporal relationship extraction and pattern‐based rules to recognize and annotate elements in historical text documents. The extracted spatio‐temporal data is used as input for GIS studies on the time–geography context of the German–Herero resistance war of 1904 in Namibia. Related issues when analyzing the historical data in current GIS are discussed. Particularly problematic are movement data in small scale with poor temporal density and trajectories that are short or connect very distant locations.
