[Termes IGN] SQLRésumé : (Auteur) The MultiDimER model is a conceptual model used for representing a multidimensional view of data for Data Warehouse (DW) and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) applications. This model includes a spatial extension allowing spatiality in levels, hierarchies, fact relationships, and measures. In this way decision-making users can represent in an abstract manner their analysis needs without considering complex implementation issues and spatial OLAP tools developers can have a common vision for representing spatial data in a multidimensional model. In this paper we propose the transformation of a conceptual schema based on the MultiDimER constructs to an object-relational schema. We based our mapping on the SQL:2003 and SQL/MM standards giving examples of commercial implemen-tation using Oracle lOg with its spatial extension. Further we use spatial integrity constraints to ensure the semantic equivalence of the conceptual and logical schemas. We also show some examples of Oracle spatial functions, including aggregation functions required for the manipulation of spatial data. The described mappings to the object-relational model along with the examples using a commercial system show the feasibility of implementing spatial DWs in current commercial DBMSs. Further, using integrated architectures, where spatial and thematic data is defined within the same DBMS, facilitates the system management simplifying data definition and manipulation. [Termes IGN] résiduRésumé : (Auteur) In this paper, a theoretical analysis is presented of the degree of correctness to which the accuracy figures of a grid Digital Elevation Model (DEM) have been estimated, measured as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) depending on the number of checkpoints used in the accuracy assessment process. The latter concept is sometimes referred to as the Reliability of the DEM accuracy tests. Two theoretical models have been developed for estimating the reliability of the DEM accuracy figures using the number of checkpoints and parameters related to the statistical distribution of residuals (mean, variance, skewness, and standardized kurtosis). A general case was considered in which residuals might be weakly correlated (local spatial autocorrelation) with non-zero mean and non-normal distribution. Thus, we avoided the “strong assumption” of distribution normality accepted in some of the previous works and in the majority of the current standards of positional accuracy control methods. Sampled data were collected using digital photogrammetric methods applied to large scale stereo imagery (1:5 000). In this way, seven morphologies were sampled with a 2 m by 2 m sampling interval, ranging from flat (3 percent average slope) to the highly rugged terrain of marble quarries (82 percent average slope). Two local schemes of interpolation have been employed, using Multiquadric Radial Basis Functions (MRBF) and Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) interpolators, to generate interpolated surfaces from high-resolution grid DEMs. The theoretical results obtained were experimentally validated using the Monte Carlo simulation method. The proposed models provided a good fit for the raw simulated data for the seven morphologies and the two schemes of interpolation tested (r2 > 0.96 as mean value). The proposed theoretical models performed very well for modeling the non-gaussian distribution of the errors at the checkpoints, a property which is very common in geographically distributed data. [Termes IGN] visibilitéRésumé : (Auteur) Automatic design of photogrammetric networks is a complex task for which the visibility and quality constraints need to be both modelled and satisfied simultaneously. The task becomes even more complex when measurements are carried out for the first time on a large and/or complex object surrounded by multiple obstructions in a confined workspace. In this situation, automatic visibility prediction of a target point becomes an extremely difficult task. The visibility information inherent within the initial photogrammetric network can be used to solve this problem. However, this introduces some uncertainty into the prediction result because of the incompleteness of the visibility information. In a previous study, the authors developed an analytical deterministic method, visibility uncertainty prediction (VUP), that used ‘‘visibility spheres’’ to predict the visibility of target points. This paper investigates the use of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in visibility prediction, and presents a new technique, ANN-based visibility uncertainty prediction (AVUP), that works by training a feed-forward multi-layer ANN. The visibility data for this network is extracted from the initial photogrammetric network. Once trained, the network can be used to predict the visibility of any target point from a potential camera station. Various experiments were carried out to evaluate the proposed technique. The results showed that, compared to the previous deterministic method, it is more accurate and has a lower computational cost.
