[Vedettes matières IGN] Ecologie forestièreRésumé : (auteur) Context : Hoverflies are often used as bio-indicators for ecosystem conservation, but only few studies have actually investigated the key factors explaining their richness in woodlands.
Objectives : In a fragmented landscape in southwest France, we investigated the joint effects of woodland area, structural heterogeneity, connectivity and history on the species richness of forest-specialist hoverflies, and whether there was a time lag in the response of hoverflies to habitat changes, and tested the effect of spatiotemporal changes.
Methods : Current species richness was sampled in 48 woodlands using 99 Malaise traps. Structural variables were derived from a rapid habitat assessment protocol. Old maps and aerial photographs were used to extract past and present spatial patterns of the woodlands since 1850. Relationships between species richness and explanatory variables were explored using generalized linear models.
Results : We show that current habitat area, connectivity, historical continuity and the average density of tree-microhabitats explained 35 % of variation in species richness. Species richness was affected differently by changes in patch area between 1979 and 2010, depending on woodland connectivity. In isolated woodlands, extinction debt and colonization credit were revealed, showing that even several decades are not sufficient for hoverflies to adapt to landscape-scale habitat conditions.
Conclusions : These findings emphasise the importance of maintaining connectedness between woodlands, which facilitates the dispersion in a changing landscape. Our results also highlight the benefits of using a change-oriented approach to explain the current distribution patterns of species, especially when several spatial processes act jointly.

[Termes IGN] temps instantanéRésumé : (Auteur) This article concerns the theoretical foundations of movement informatics. We discuss general frameworks in which models of spatial movement may be developed. In particular, the article considers the object–field and Lagrangian–Eulerian dichotomies, and the SNAP/SPAN ontologies of the dynamic world, and classifies the variety of informatic structures according to these frameworks. A major challenge is transitioning between paradigms. Usually data is captured with respect to one paradigm but can usefully be represented in another. We discuss this process in formal terms and then describe experiments that we performed to show feasibility. It emerges that observational granularity plays a crucial role in these transitions. [Termes IGN] trajet (mobilité)Résumé : (Auteur) Nowadays, an abundance of sensors are used to collect very large datasets of moving objects. The movement of these objects can be analysed by identifying common routes. For this, a cluster of trajectories must be defined and the pattern of each cluster discovered. In this article, we introduce a new pattern, called the Trajectory Box Plot (TBP), to summarize a set of trajectories following the same route. The TBP is an extension of the well-known descriptive statistics Box Plot concept. Each TBP is described by a median trajectory, a 3D box and a 3D fence. The median trajectory depicts the typical movement of mobile objects. The box and the fences (whiskers) describe the spatial and temporal spreading around the central tendency. TBPs are useful to summarize and analyse trajectory streams, understand their spatio-temporal density and detect outliers. In this article, visual analysis highlights how the TBP pattern effectively describes how the density of trajectory clusters change over time. [Termes IGN] réseau socialRésumé : (auteur) Social media have ushered in alternative modalities to propagate news and developments rapidly. Just as traditional IR matured to modeling storylines from search results, we are now at a point to study how stories organize and evolve in additional mediums such as Twitter, a new frontier for intelligence analysis. This study takes as input news articles as well as social media feeds and extracts and connects entities into interesting storylines not explicitly stated in the underlying data. First, it proposes a novel method of spatio-temporal analysis on induced concept graphs that models storylines propagating through spatial regions in a time sequence. Second, it describes a method to control search space complexity by providing regions of exploration. And third, it describes ConceptRank as a ranking strategy that differentiates strongly-typed connections from weakly-bound ones. Extensive experiments on the Boston Marathon Bombings of April 15, 2013 as well as socio-political and medical events in Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States demonstrate storytelling’s high application potential, showcasing its use in event summarization and association analysis that identifies events before they hit the newswire.
