[Termes IGN] simulation d'imageRésumé : (Auteur) Polarimetric hyperspectral images can provide spectral, spatial, and polarimetric information of a scene, which are unique and comprehensive for remote sensing applications such as growth monitoring of crops, analysis of water quality, and geology mapping, etc. The researches on polarimetric hyperspectral imaging mechanism and on image characteristics are of great importance for further information extraction and utilization of the images. The purposes of this paper are to analyze the mechanism of polarimetric hyperspectral imaging and to model such a process. The outcome of the paper will help designers and users of a polarimetric hyperspectral imaging system to further understand the system and take full advantages of it. In this paper, a polarimetric hyperspectral imaging model is proposed, in which the influence of skylight on polarization is considered, and subpixel model, polarized reflectance models, and the classical fast canopy reflectance model are combined to model the vegetation canopy. Then, a simulated scene that includes a woodland area with low shrubbery and a road is obtained by using the imaging model. Experiments analyze and discuss the simulation condition and parameters of the imaging models, the uniqueness, and usefulness of the integration of polarimetric and spectral information. Results demonstrate that variations of parameters are continuous and predictable, allowing a new way to describe internal camera geometry. The classical constant parameters, c, x p , y p , K 1 , K 2 , P 1 and P 2 , are replaced by continuous functions, c(y), x p (y), y p(y), K 1 (y), K 2 (y), P 1 (y) andP 2 (y), where y is a variable describing the focus position. Incorporation of y as a metadata tag (for example, Exif header) of a photograph jointly with a parameterised definition of camera geometry would allow full use of the autofocus camera function; enabling maximum effective depth of field, better match of the plane of focus with the object’s position and higher reliability. Additionally, conducted tests suggest the parameterised definition of internal geometry could help to locate and correct linear dependences between adjusted parameters, potentially improving the precision and accuracy of calibration. [Termes IGN] propagation du signalRésumé : (Auteur) Recent studies have proved that the Rational Polynomial Camera (RPC) model is able to act as a reliable replacement of the rigorous Range-Doppler (RD) model for the geometric processing of satellite SAR datasets. But its capability in absolute geolocation of SAR images has not been evaluated quantitatively. Therefore, in this article the problems of error analysis and refinement of SAR RPC model are primarily investigated to improve the absolute accuracy of SAR geolocation. Range propagation delay and azimuth timing error are identified as two major error sources for SAR geolocation. An approach based on SAR image simulation and real-to-simulated image matching is developed to estimate and correct these two errors. Afterwards a refined RPC model can be built from the error-corrected RD model and then used in satellite SAR geocoding. Three experiments with different settings are designed and conducted to comprehensively evaluate the accuracies of SAR geolocation with both ordinary and refined RPC models. All the experimental results demonstrate that with RPC model refinement the absolute location accuracies of geocoded SAR images can be improved significantly, particularly in Easting direction. In another experiment the computation efficiencies of SAR geocoding with both RD and RPC models are compared quantitatively. The results show that by using the RPC model such efficiency can be remarkably improved by at least 16 times. In addition the problem of DEM data selection for SAR image simulation in RPC model refinement is studied by a comparative experiment. The results reveal that the best choice should be using the proper DEM datasets of spatial resolution comparable to that of the SAR images. [Termes IGN] orthorectificationRésumé : (Auteur) It has been widely accepted that the rational polynomial coefficient (RPC) model can be used as an alternative to rigorous sensor models of high resolution optical satellites for photogrammetric processing. In the application of the RPC model to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image processing, it has been confirmed that the range-Doppler model can be replaced by the RPC model. Until now, however, orthorectification with the RPC model in SAR image processing has not been considered. This paper investigates how to perform orthorectification in SAR image processing with the RPC model. Following a brief introduction about the RPC model for spaceborne SAR imagery, an optimisation model is established and a method of conducting simulations with the RPC model is proposed. Finally, a series of experiments are performed in order to verify the correctness of the theory using TerraSAR-X, COSMO-SkyMed, ERS-2 and Envisat ASAR images as test data. By comparing the actual accuracy and the theoretical accuracy of the orthorectified imagery, the theory and methodology proposed in this paper are confirmed.
