[Termes IGN] points homologuesRésumé : (Auteur) In the paper the results of the research on the complete automation of the relative orientation of a stereo pair is presented. The theoretical background needed for understanding this topic is described and the results of testing the algorithms with real data are presented. In general, the relative orientation procedure consists of three phases: input data acquisition, computation of relative orientation parameters and estimation of observation errors. In the process of the complete relative orientation automation, the key step is the automation of homologous points acquisition in the stereo area. In the tests presented, the homologous points were acquired with different methods: manually, semiautomatically and fully automatically. The results of the computed relative orientation parameters have been compared. It has been concluded that the automation of the relative orientation procedure is successful and reliable if the control of the observation errors estimation is built into the procedure, and, especially, we get the results faster than with the manual or semi-automated method. [Termes IGN] reconstruction 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Three-dimensional modelling from single images remains an interesting topic of investigation in the research community, even though range sensors are becoming a common alternative for the generation of 3D information. The interest in single-image-based modelling is motivated by a wide spectrum of applications such as cultural heritage, civil engineering, urban planning and even criminology. In this paper a complete new production flowline is presented for modelling based on a single image. The modelling process consists of a series of familiar steps in photogrammetry and computer vision: feature extraction, vanishing point computation, camera self-calibration, 3D reconstruction and dimensional analysis. In particular, the methodology developed for single-image-based modelling takes a scientific approach combining several proven techniques with robust estimators. Finally, in order to demonstrate its capabilities, the reported examples include several real situations applied in different contexts. [Termes IGN] valeur propreRésumé : (Auteur) True replacement sensor models, or TRSM, are those based on construction of dense object–image grids using the rigorous physical sensor model. Photogrammetric exploitation of image sensing applies the TRSMs since, like the physical models, they possess the same three important characteristics: (1) Accurate ground-to-image function; (2) Rigorous error propagation that is essentially of the same accuracy as the physical model; and, (3) Adjustability, or the ability to upgrade the TRSM parameters when additional control information becomes available after replacing the physical model. The ground-to-image functions are commonly achieved via fitting rational polynomial coefficients, RPC, to the dense grids which encompass the entire ground volume covered by the image under consideration. A novel approach for rigorous error propagation, without using added parameters, has been developed at Purdue University. The approach resolves the problem of rank deficiency of the covariance matrix associated with RPC by the eigen-values and eigen-vectors approach. This paper summarizes the new approach and presents further development to address the adjustability characteristic. Results from its application to imagery from an aerial frame camera, an airborne pushbroom sensor, and a spaceborne linear array sensor, are presented for both simulated as well as real image data. The results show essentially negligible differences when compared to those from the rigorous physical sensor models. [Termes IGN] transformation intensité-teinte-saturationRésumé : (Auteur) The term “image fusion” covers multiple techniques used to combine the geometric detail of a high-resolution panchromatic image and the color information of a low-resolution multispectral image to produce a final image with the highest possible spatial information content while still preserving good spectral information quality. During the last twenty years, many methods such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Multiplicative Transform, Brovey Transform, and IHS Transform have been developed producing good quality fused images. Despite the quite good visual results, many research papers have reported the limitations of the above fusion techniques. The most significant problem is color distortion. Another common problem is that the fusion quality often depends upon the operator’s fusion experience and upon the data set being fused. In this study, we compare the efficiency of nine fusion techniques and more specifically the efficiency of IHS, Modified IHS, PCA, Pansharp, Wavelet, LMM (Local Mean Matching), LMVM (Local Mean and Variance Matching), Brovey, and Multiplicative fusion techniques for the fusion of QuickBird data. The suitability of these fusion techniques for various applications depends on the spectral and spatial quality of the fused images. In order to quantitatively measure the quality of the fused images, we have made the following controls. First, we have examined the visual qualitative result. Then, we examined the correlation between the original multispectral and the fused images and all the statistical parameters of the histograms of the various frequency bands. Finally, we performed an unsupervised classification, and we compared the resulting images. All the fusion techniques improve the resolution and the visual result. The resampling method practically has no effect on the final visual result. The LMVM, the LMM, the Pansharp, and the Wavelet merging technique do not change the statistical parameters of the original images. The Modified IHS provokes minor changes to the statistical parameters than the classical IHS or than the PCA. After all the controls, the LMVM, the LMM, the Pansharp, and the Modified IHS algorithm seem to gather the more advantages in fusion panchromatic and multispectral data.
