[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) In this paper, we describe a system for visualizing and exploiting 3D digital data of the Parisian sewer system (PSS). PSS presents a difficult working environment because it is subject to a certain number of risks: toxic gases and waste, biological risks such as viruses and pathogenic bacteria contained in wastewater. Certain areas of PSS are damp, unhealthy, encumbered with waste. In order to improve the working conditions of the sewers and usage of the network in the context of the research for a reduction on exposures to health and safety risks, we developed such system aiming to do the visualization and exploitation of 3D PSS data. Our system allows sewer operators to gather data, information for observation, direct inspection, indirect monitoring and reporting to assess the condition of such sewer system. [Termes IGN] SlovénieRésumé : (auteur) This paper discusses methodological problems of accurate area determination in the cadaster. The paper contrasts the ambiguous legal definition of the parcel boundary and parcel area in relation to the theoretically well-defined geodetic parcel boundary and the geodetic parcel area on the reference ellipsoid. To align with the real world, parcel area must account for terrain elevation. Various approximate methods for area determination which can be used in the cadaster are tested. A highly accurate method for parcel area computation is proposed, based on an equal-area projection. Considering the geodetic parcel area as a reference, the achievable accuracy of different methods is evaluated. For this analysis, the coordinates of the parcel boundary points are treated as error-free. Finally, the relevance of various systematic errors is discussed in relation to the statistical uncertainty of the parcel area, which could be gained by an a real-time kinematic GNSS survey. A case study is presented for the territory of Slovenia, its georeferencing rules, land demarcation pattern, and characteristics of its topography. Based on the results of this study, some general recommendations for the parcel area determination are given. Since the reentry to the Earth’s atmosphere, the full cycle of the GOCE data has been published by ESA. At first, we evaluated all the GOCE-based global geoid models over Finland using terrestrial gravity and GNSS-levelling data. The most suitable model was selected as a global background model for the Finnish quasi-geoid calculations. Next, we combined the chosen model with terrestrial gravity data of Finland and surrounding areas. Quasi-geoid models with different modifications were calculated using the GOCE DIR5 model up to spherical harmonic degree and order (d/o) 240 and 300, and the high resolution EIGEN-6C4 (includes the complete GOCE data) model up to degree and order 1000 and 2190. The calculated quasi-geoid models were validated to the measurements on site with two independent GPS-levelling datasets. The best quasi-geoid models with GOCE gave standard deviations of 2.6 cm (FIN_DIR5 d/o 240) and 2.3 cm (FIN_DIR5 d/o 300) in Finland. For the high resolution model FIN_EIGEN-6C4, the results were 1.8 cm (d/o 1000) and 1.7 cm (d/o 2190). In addition, the results were compared with the latest geoid models available in Finland (FIN2005N00, NKG2004, NKG2015, EGG2008). The sub-2-centimetre (and near 2 cm, when using the GOCE-based models) accuracy is an improvement over the previous and current Finnish geoid models. We present a method for assessing windstorm damages in forest landscapes based on a two-stage sampling strategy using single-date, post-event airborne laser scanning (ALS) data. ALS data are used for delineating damaged forest stands and for an initial evaluation of the volume of fallen trees. The total volume of fallen trees is then estimated using a two-stage model-assisted approach, where variables from ALS are used as auxiliary information in the difference estimator. In the first stage, a sample of the delineated forest stands is selected, and in the second stage the within-stand damages are estimated by means of line intercept sampling (LIS). The proposed method produces maps of windthrown areas, estimates of forest damages in terms of the total volume of fallen trees, and the uncertainty of the estimates. A case study is presented for a large windstorm that struck the Tuscany Region of Italy the night of the 4th and the 5th of March 2015 and caused extensive damages to trees in both forest and urban areas. The pure field-based estimates from LIS and the ALS-based estimates of stand-level fallen wood were very similar. Our positive results demonstrate the utility of the single-date approach for a fast assessment of windthrow damages in forest stands which is especially useful when pre-event ALS data are not available.
