[Vedettes matières IGN] GéovisualisationRésumé : (auteur) Mapping the prevalence and spread of infectious diseases has never been more critical than during the COVID-19 pandemic. A plethora of Web-based GIS dashboards have been created that incorporate basic GIS functionality; these dashboards have served as platforms for rapid data sharing and real-time information, ultimately facilitating decision making. However, many of them have merely focused on presenting and monitoring cumulative or daily incidence of COVID-19 data, disregarding the temporal dimension. In this paper, we review the usefulness of GIS-based dashboards for mapping the prevalence of COVID-19, but also missed opportunities to emphasize the temporal component of the disease (cyclicity, seasonality). We suggest that advanced geovisualization techniques can be used to integrate the temporal component in interactive animated maps illustrating (a) the daily relative risk and the number of days a geographic region has been in a disease cluster, (b) the ratio between the observed and expected number of cases over time, and (c) mortality count dynamics in a space–time cube. We illustrate these approaches by using COVID-19 cases and death counts across the U.S. at the county level from 25 January 2020 to 1 October 2020. We discuss how each of these visualization approaches can promote the understanding of important public health concepts applied to the pandemic such as risk, spread, and mortality. Finally, we suggest future avenues to promote research at the intersection of space–time visualization and infectious diseases. Based on the urban maps retrieved from Landsat images in 1973–2018, we mapped and quantified the detailed urban expansion process of Mumbai by adopting the expansion area and speed indices, centroid shift model, urban expansion type method, hot-zone identification method and landscape metrics. The results indicated that: (1) urban land remarkably expanded, and its centroid moved from the southwest to the northeast direction, mainly adopting the edge-expansion form. (2) Distinctly spatiotemporal heterogeneities existed in eight directions, faster in the north, northeast and east directions, whereas slower in the five other directions. (3) The number of hot-zones increased from two to three and moved outward in space from urban centroid. (4) The urban landscape of Mumbai showed the ‘diffusion, aggregation, re-diffusion’ pattern and presented differences in eight directions.

[Vedettes matières IGN] CartologieRésumé : (auteur) The See Color is a color coding system based on Braille writing to communicate colors to people with visual impairments. This study assessed the perception of the theme Temperature by blind people, by using the See Color code on two isarithmic tactile maps and the perception of subjects with normal color vision. An average temperature map of Australia had 10 classes, but these intervals were regrouped into four classes on Corel Draw software. The new map was duplicated in the digital project in A4 size, both included the See Color code in two color schemes obtained from the Color Brewer website. Subsequently, they were laser-printed on swell paper to produce the tactile relief. The chromatic perception was observed, as well as the thermal sensations that the colors could represent for blind participants (06), normally sighted participants in basic education (23), and normally sighted participants in higher education (20). In this research, the See Color code showed the potential to provide spatial knowledge as a graphic language through colors in color maps for adventitiously blind and for normally sighted participants based on their perception of colors and tactile color codes.
