[Termes IGN] système d'information géographiqueRésumé : (auteur) In this era of climate change and global warming, forest fires are increasing around the world and especially in areas with arid and semi-arid climate. Hence, prevention is vital and it is considered as the best solution to protect forest areas. This paper presents a multi-criteria approach for the assessment and mapping of fire risk using three indicators: topomorphology index, climatic index, and human one. For each indicator, sub-indicators such as slope, morphology, exposure, number of fires, groundwater reserve, and evapotranspiration are chosen to generate a forest fire risk index in Bizerte region. Spatial data on all these indicators have been aggregated and organized in a geographic information system (GIS) framework. Results show that 33% of the total area of Bizerte forest is highly vulnerable to fire risk and an increasing of risk from 2013 to 2016. Sensitivity analyses indicated that the removal of the climatic (ICL) and the human indexes (HI) from the forest fire risk index causes large variation in the risk assessment. As a consequence, it should have higher weights than other indicators, which proves that triggering of wildfires is in the whole part caused by human activities and accelerated by climatic conditions. The remote sensing approach using NBR index confirms that severity of burned area increases throughout the time and the most changes are observed in the Northeast of Bizerte forest. These results can serve as a planning tool for decision makers to save the lives of residents and forest resources. In this work, a combined GIS and wave modeling method is used to identify areas exposed to coastal erosion. The main objective of this work is the qualitative identification of shoreline sectors where wave and swell energy are important. The selected study area is “Cap Rosa” located in the El Tarf coast in eastern Algeria. The obtained results show that the eastern part of the study area is the most affected by wave impact. This preliminary identification can be used in a detailed vulnerability assessment along the coast while integrating other factors (physical and socio-economic) beside the shoreline exposure. Identifying areas susceptible to flooding is important for developing appropriate watershed management policies. As such, the goal of the present study was to develop an integrated framework for flood susceptibility assessment in data-scarce regions, using data from the Haraz watershed in Iran. Flood-influencing indices best suited to the identification of areas particularly prone to flooding were selected. The decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approach was used to investigate the interdependence among criteria and to develop a network structure representative of the problem. The relative importance of different flood-influencing factors was determined using the analytical network process (ANP). A flood susceptibility map was produced using weights obtained through the ANP and fuzzy-value function (FVF) and validated using 72 available flood locations where flooding occurred between 2006 and 2018. After validating the results, fuzzy theory served to better delineate the flood susceptibility scores among the region’s sub-watersheds. Incorporating the DEMATEL-ANP approach with FVF yielded an accuracy of 89.1%, as was assessed through the area under the curve (AUC) of a receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve. The results indicated that the strongest flood-influencing (occurrence/nonoccurrence) factors were elevation, land use, soil texture, and frequency of heavy rainstorms. The fuzzy theory showed sub-watershed C1 to be highly susceptible to flooding, and thus, most in need of flood management. [Termes IGN] polygoneRésumé : (auteur) Various spectral indices have been introduced to detect water extent from satellite images with different performances in various regions. The aim of this study is to provide an efficient index using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to detect water spread areas from satellite images with similar performance in different regions. This index is introduced for images containing water absorption bands from visible to middle infrared wavelengths. Eleven images were prepared from different satellites and water bodies with various environmental conditions. In addition, 40 pixels from water and 40 pixels from non-water regions were selected as training data for PSO algorithm. Results were evaluated using digitized polygons of water bodies on high-resolution images of Google Earth. The best results in PSO-based water index (PSOWI) were obtained by the combination of two bands (red and middle infrared). PSOWI represented proper performance in the selected various land covers and satellite images. Therefore, to store, process and mine trajectory data in a better way, trajectory data simplification is imperative. Current trajectory data simplification methods are either based on spatiotemporal features or semantic features, such as road network structure, but they do not consider semantic features of a trajectory stop. To overcome this limitation, this study presents a trajectory segmentation simplification method based on stop features. The proposed method first extracts the stop feature of a trajectory, then divides the trajectory into move segments and stop segments based on the stop features, and finally simplifies the obtained segments. The proposed method is verified by experiments on personal trajectory data and taxi trajectory data. Compared with the classic spatiotemporal simplification method, the proposed method has higher spatiotemporal and semantic accuracy under different simplification scales. The proposed method is especially suitable for trajectory data with more stop features.
