Together, they form a powerful tool to measure, map, monitor and model resources and environmental data for both scientific and commercial applications. Originally published in 1997, this book brought together work by leaders in the field to address improved techniques, applications and research in integrated remote sensing and geographical information systems. Among the topics covered are image rectification, change detection, visualisation, computer modelling, local land use planning, requirements of GIS in global change research, and potential directions for research. Remote sensing and GIS play a key role in studies of water resources, air quality, topography, land cover, and population location and dynamics, and specialists working at the local, regional and global levels will find this book a valuable and stimulating resource. [Termes IGN] objet géographiqueRésumé : (Auteur) When integrating geo-spatial data sets, a join algorithm is used for finding sets of corresponding objects (i.e., objects that represent the same real-world entity). This article investigates location-based join algorithms for integration of several data sets. First, algorithms for integration of two data sets are presented and their performances, in terms of recall and precision, are compared. Then, two approaches for integration of more than two data sets are described. In one approach, all the integrated data sets are processed simultaneously. In the second approach, a join algorithm for two data sets is applied sequentially, either in a serial manner, where in each join at least one of the joined data sets is a single source, or in a hierarchical manner, where two join results can be joined. For the two approaches, join algorithms are given. The algorithms are designed to perform well even when location of objects are imprecise and each data set represents only some of the real-world entities. Results of extensive experiments with the different approaches are provided and analyzed. The experiments show the differences, in accuracy and efficiency, between the approaches, under different circumstances. The results also show that all our algorithms have much better accuracy than applying the commonly used one-sided nearest-neighbor join. [Termes IGN] traitement différéRésumé : (Auteur) From the Landsat program's inception in 1972 to the present, the Earth science user community has been benefiting from a historical record of remotely sensed data. The multispectral data from the Landsat 5 (L5) Thematic Mapper (TM) sensor provide the backbone for this extensive archive. Historically, the radiometric calibration procedure for the L5 TM imagery used the detectors' response to the internal calibrator (IC) on a scene-by-scene basis to determine the gain and offset for each detector. The IC system degraded with time, causing radiometric calibration errors up to 20%. In May 2003, the L5 TM data processed and distributed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science Center through the National Landsat Archive Production System (NLAPS) were updated to use a lifetime lookup-table (LUT) gain model to radiometrically calibrate TM data instead of using scene-specific IC gains. Further modification of the gain model was performed in 2007. The L5 TM data processed using IC prior to the calibration update do not benefit from the recent calibration revisions. A procedure has been developed to give users the ability to recalibrate their existing level-1 products. The best recalibration results are obtained if the work-order report that was included in the original standard data product delivery is available. However, if users do not have the original work-order report, the IC trends can be used for recalibration. The IC trends were generated using the radiometric gain trends recorded in the NLAPS database. This paper provides the details of the recalibration procedure for the following: 1) data processed using IC where users have the work-order file; 2) data processed using IC where users do not have the work-order file; 3) data processed using prelaunch calibration parameters; and 4) data processed using the previous version of the LUT (e.g., LUT03) that was released before April 2, 2007. The focus of this paper is data quality in UGSC. An important notion both to improve quality during production, and to help in providing quality metadata for users is that of specifications. They are the most detailed available source of knowledge about geographic databases content (Abadie, 2009). The rest of this paper will discuss important definitions and related work concerning quality in User Generated Content (UGC) and user generated spatial content UGSC. Then, an approach to qualify UGSC is proposed, based on specifications. Finally, our conclusions and perspectives are presented.
