[Termes IGN] spécification de contenuRésumé : (Auteur) Ordnance Survey is the national mapping agency of Great Britain. We are always developing our product line and are currently investigating the addition of 3D data. In line with our role as a national mapping agency, the approach is to do this, such that any data is part of a coherent range of products that are sympathetic with the terrain and existing 2D topographic data, are of national cover and are maintained. Such intentions create unique challenges to a mapping agency. These challenges include: 1. Specification determination and an appropriate capture methodology. 2. Data modelling and storage of 3D data. 3. Maintenance of the database. 4. Supply of products in a useful format. This paper will discuss those issues most pertinent to the development of a potential 3D product within Ordnance Survey. Subsequently, a better understanding of the complexity of implementing a 3D dataset into a national mapping agency's product portfolio can be achieved. This requires reliable, accurate and timely data, which, as the authors demonstrate, Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) can provide. [Termes IGN] Ordnance Survey (UK)Résumé : (Auteur) Current trends, practices and related developments in the use of maps and information about geographic objects are outlined. The need for strategies including the Ordnance Survey GI Strategy, the UK Location Strategy, the Digital National Framework and INSPIRE to be better aligned to meet the growing needs of an information-based economy is discussed. Challenges to this transformation are identified. [Termes IGN] Nouvelle-ZélandeRésumé : (Auteur) Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is changing the form of cadastral regulation to allow the efficient operation of cadastral survey markets while ensuring the achievement of government cadastral outcomes. This, referred to as "Optimal Regulation", is also being applied to other areas of business such as land registration, topographic mapping, hydrographic charting and valuation. The phrase 'as little as possible, as much as necessary' encapsulates this philosophy of optimising the level of intervention and enabling the marketplace to develop the best solutions to meet regulated requirements.
