[Termes IGN] Web Processing ServiceRésumé : (Auteur) A grid-powered Web Geographical Information Science (GIS)/Web Processing Service (WPS) system has been developed for archiving and distributing large volumes of geospatial data. However, users, WPS servers, and data resources are always distributed across different locations, attempting to access and archive geospatial data from a GIS survey via conventional Hypertext Transport Protocol, Network File System Protocol, and File Transfer Protocol, which often encounters long waits and frustration in wide area network (WAN) environments. To provide a ldquolocal-likerdquo performance, a WAN/grid-optimized protocol known as ldquoGridJetrdquo developed at our lab was used as the underlying engine between WPS servers and clients, which utilizes a wide range of technologies including the one of paralleling the remote file access. No change in the way of using software is required since the multistreamed GridJet protocol remains fully compatible with the existing IP infrastructures. Our recent progress includes a real-world test that PyWPS and Google Earth over the GridJet protocol beat those over the classic ones by a factor of two to eight, where the distribution/archiving distance is over 10 000 km. [Termes IGN] XMLRésumé : (Auteur) Earth science research and applications usually use Distributed Geospatial Information Processing (DGIP) services and powerful computing capabilities to extract information and knowledge from large volumes of distributed geospatial data. Conceptually, such processing can be abstracted into a logical model that utilizes geospatial domain knowledge to produce new geospatial products. Using this idea, the geo-tree concept and the proposed geospatial Abstract Information Model (AIM) have been used to develop a Grid workflow engine complying with geospatial standards and the Business Process Execution Language. Upon a user's request, the engine generates virtual geospatial data/information/knowledge products from existing DGIP data and services. This article details how to (1) define and describe the AIM in XML format, (2) describe the process logically with an AIM, including the geospatial semantic logic, (3) conceptually describe the process of producing a particular geospatial product step by step from raw geospatial data, (4) instantiate AIM as a concrete Grid-service workflow by selecting the optimal service instances and data sets, and (5) design a Grid workflow engine to execute the concrete workflows to produce geospatial products. To verify the advantages and applicability of this Grid-enabled virtual geospatial product system, its performance is evaluated, and a sample application is provided. [Termes IGN] infrastructure nationale des données localiséesRésumé : (Auteur) This work proposes an architectural style, a pattern, for spatial data infrastructures (SDIs). This style provides a tool and a shared vocabulary to help system architects to design these infrastructures, and facilitates the exchange of knowledge about them. This style is defined under the component-and-connector architectural viewtype, extending the client-server and shared-data styles. The style has been created after analyzing six of the most relevant SDIs and geo-service architectural proposals. Several architectural elements that these proposals have not properly addressed are considered. Three real projects, with published architectural views or models, have been examined to verify the applicability of the style. The proposed style offers a systematization and refinement of knowledge about SDIs, grounded in well-known concepts in software architecture. [Termes IGN] voisinage (relation topologique)Résumé : (Auteur) We study the continuous evaluation of spatial join queries and extensions thereof, defined by interesting combinations of sensor readings (events) that co-occur in a spatial neighborhood. An example of such a pattern is “a high temperature reading in the vicinity of at least four high-pressure readings”. We devise protocols for ‘in-network’ evaluation of this class of queries, aiming at the minimization of power consumption. In addition, we develop cost models that suggest the appropriateness of each protocol, based on various factors, including selectivity of query elements, energy requirements for sensing, and network topology. Finally, we experimentally compare the effectiveness of the proposed solutions on an experimental platform that emulates real sensor networks. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (Auteur) Over the last few years, the geo-industry has become increasingly aware that the world is a 3D place. In the past, cities, landscapes, etc. were always displayed as 2D chart representations. The best 3D that could be offered was a DTM of heights or depths. At the other end of the spectrum, there have always been those who did cityscaping and landscaping. Although they viewed the world as a 3D place, their models were anchored in the real world and, as such , could not be combined with other sorts of information. They were defined as purely graphical or geometrical models, thereby ignoring semantics and topology. CityGML is an attempt to resolve these aspects in a coherent way.
