[Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (auteur) This paper provides geometric accuracy improvements for very highresolution WorldView-2 (WV2) Ortho Ready Standard Level-2A (ORS2A) satelliteimages in the panchromatic (PAN) band. The entire process can be divided intotwo steps: (1) sensor orientation, which was conducted on 40 ground controlpoints (GCPs) to determine which sensor model was best depending on variousnumbers of GCPs; and (2) orthorectification, whose main objective was tocompare the accuracy of the process when using different freely available globaldigital elevation models (DEMs). The research showed that a sensor model basedon rational polynomial coefficients (RPCs) with a shift or zero-order biascorrection attained the best geopositioning accuracy during the orientation stepwith the use of seven GCPs. The highest accuracy was achieved for imagesorthorectified with the ALOS World 3D-30 m DEM (AW3D30). [Termes IGN] zone à risqueRésumé : (auteur) We present a procedure for assessing the urban exposure and seismic vulnerability that integrates LiDAR data with aerial images from the Spanish National Plan of Aerial Orthophotography (PNOA). It comprises three phases: first, we segment the satellite image to divide the study area into different urban patterns. Second, we extract building footprints and attributes that represent the type of building of each urban pattern. Finally, we assign the seismic vulnerability to each building using different machine-learning techniques: Decision trees, SVM, logistic regression and Bayesian networks. We apply the procedure to 826 buildings in the city of Lorca (SE Spain), where we count on a vulnerability database that we use as ground truth for the validation of results. The outcomes show that the machine learning techniques have similar performance, yielding vulnerability classification results with an accuracy of 77%–80% (F1-Score). The procedure is scalable and can be replicated in different areas. This is particularly relevant in Spain, where more than seven hundred towns have to develop seismic risk studies in the years to come, according to the General Direction of Civil Protection and Emergencies. It is especially interesting as a complement to conventional data gathering approaches for disaster risk applications in cities where field surveys need to be restricted to certain areas, dates or budget. [Termes IGN] valeur aberranteRésumé : (Auteur) Models of ground surface elevations are crucial to many applications of remotely sensed data, including estimates of the height relative to ground of non-ground objects, such as buildings and vegetation. In highly engineered regions, such as cities, there are many discontinuities in both the ground surface and the surface of non-ground objects. Sub-metre resolution elevation data for these regions are increasingly available. At these resolutions there is sufficient information and a growing need to improve model accuracies by incorporating discontinuities. Here we provide a new method for generating high resolution models of discontinuous ground surfaces from breakline data and digital surface models derived from remotely sensed data. The method uses segment based filtering, outlier removal and multiresolution thin-plate spline surface fitting. Breaklines are included in the fitted surface using partial derivatives and a breakline-aware method for transferring between different resolutions. We demonstrate our method using elevation data derived from photogrammetry for suburban regions of Perth, Western Australia, and Vaihingen, Germany. We produced ground surface models with noticeable qualitative and quantitative improvements when breaklines are included, at an increased computational cost of approximately 10% when all other parameters remained the same. For LiDAR derived elevations, we report our residual error against a number of other methods recorded using the ISPRS Ground Filtering Test Sites. [Termes IGN] réductionRésumé : (auteur) In cost–benefit analysis of lidar data acquisition, point density is often artificially reduced in order to examine how this affects the quality of derived products. However, the performance of the different density reduction methods has not yet been compared and their influence on the accuracy of the models and results has not been evaluated. A novel method for reducing the point density, termed Proportional per Cell (PpC), is presented and compared with the performance of three other reduction methods, examining their influence on the accuracy of lidar‐derived digital surface models using ISPRS reference data. The results indicate that the PpC method was better at conserving the characteristics of the original data. However, point density, sample type and slope had a greater influence than the reduction method used. [Termes IGN] volume en boisRésumé : (auteur) Key Message: This study showed that digital terrestrial photogrammetry is able to produce accurate estimates of stem volume and diameter across a range of species and tree sizes that showed strong correspondence when compared with traditional inventory techniques. This paper demonstrates the utility of the technology for characterizing trees in complex habitats such as boreal mixedwood forests.
Context: Accurate knowledge of tree stem taper and volume are key components of forest inventories to manage and study forest resources. Recent developments have seen the increasing use of ground-based point clouds, including from digital terrestrial photogrammetry (DTP), to provide accurate estimates of these key forest attributes.
Aims: In this study, we evaluated the utility of DTP based on a small set of photos (12 per tree) for estimating stem volume and taper on a set of 15 trees from 6 different species (Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, Pinus contorta latifolia, Betula papyrifera, Picea mariana, Abies balsamea) in a boreal mixedwood forest in Alberta, Canada.
Methods: We constructed accurate photogrammetric point clouds and derived taper and volume from three point cloud–based methods, which were then compared with estimates from conventional, field-based measurements. All methods were evaluated for their accuracy based on field-measured taper and volume of felled trees.
Results: Of the methods tested, we found that the point cloud–derived diameters in a taper curve matching approach performed the best at estimating diameters at the lowest parts of the stem ( 50% of total height). Using the field-measured DBH and height as inputs to calculate stem volume yielded the most accurate predictions; however, these were not significantly different from the best point cloud-based estimates.
Conclusion: The methodology confirmed that using a small set of photographs provided accurate estimates of individual tree DBH, taper, and volume across a range of species and size gradients (10.8–40.4 cm DBH).Numéro de notice : A2019-303 Affiliation des auteurs : non IGN Thématique : FORET/IMAGERIE Nature : Article nature-HAL : ArtAvecCL-RevueIntern DOI : 10.1007/s13595-019-0852-9 Date de publication en ligne : 08/08/2019 En ligne : https://doi.org/10.1007/s13595-019-0852-9 Format de la ressource électronique : URL article Permalink : https://documentation.ensg.eu/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=93226
