[Termes IGN] série de FourierRésumé : (Auteur) This paper presents a new family of rigorous and flexible mathematical self-calibration additional parameters (APs) for airborne camera calibration. Photogrammetric self-calibration can – to a very large extent – be considered as a function approximation problem in mathematics. It is shown, that algebraic polynomials are less desirable for designing self-calibration APs due to the highly correlated terms. Based on the mathematical approximation theory, we suggest that Fourier series be the optimal mathematical basis functions for self-calibration purpose. A whole family of so-called Fourier self-calibration APs is developed, whose solid theoretical foundations are the Laplace’s Equation and the Fourier Theorem. Fourier APs are orthogonal, rigorous, flexible, generic and efficient for calibrating the image distortion of frame-format airborne cameras. The high performance of Fourier APs is demonstrated in many practical tests on different camera systems, including the DMC, DMCII, UltracamX, UltracamXp and DigiCAM cameras. We illustrate the theoretical and practical advantages of the Fourier APs over the physical APs and the popular polynomial APs. The joint applications with physical models are promoted for specific applications as well. On account of the theoretical justifications and high practical performance, Fourier APs should be preferred for in situ airborne camera calibration. [Termes IGN] transformation de coordonnéesRésumé : (Auteur) We define as Positional Accuracy Improvement the problem of putting together maps A and B of the same area, with B of higher planimetric accuracy. To do so, all objects in A might have to be slightly moved according to a mathematical transformation. Such transformation might ideally be of a specific type, like analytical or conformal functions. We have developed a theory to find a suitable analytical transformation despite it is not well defined because the only data available is the displacement vectors at a limited number of homologue control points. There exists a similar problem in fluid mechanics devoted on estimating the complete velocity field given just values at a limited number of points. We borrowed some ideas from there and introduced them into the positional accuracy improvement problem. We shall demonstrate that it is possible to numerically estimate an analytic function that resembles the given displacement at control points. As a byproduct, an uncertainty estimation is produced, which might help to detect regions of different lineage. The theory has been applied to rural 1:50.000 cartography of Uruguay while trying to diminish the discrepancies against GNSS readings. After the analytic transformation, the RMSE error diminished from 116m to 48 m. Other problems with similar math requirements are the transformation between geodetic control networks. [Termes IGN] point de repèreRésumé : (Auteur) In an historically contextualized overview of the earliest extant version of the Tujitu, engraved on stone under the Liu Yu regime but believed to be a copy of a Northern Song map, the paper analyzes factors that complicate its georeferencing. The paper introduces a new algorithm for nonlinear georeferencing, applying it to 45 points and finding that the placement of sites on the north-south axis must have been based on latitudinal observation. Despite the Yujitu's startlingly modern appearance, the paper finds that there are areas in which it reflects a loyalty to classical texts. [Termes IGN] peintureRésumé : (auteur) Matteo Giovannetti's frescoes (1355–1356) which decorate the Innocent VI chapel of La Chartreuse du Val des Bénédictins (Villeneuve-lez-Avignon, France) are very sensitive to the alteration. They need a new restoration campaign. Because of the geometrical complexity of the place, the environment and the involved degradation mechanisms, a good conservation management of these murals is essential. Therefore, an interactive 3- dimensional spatial database, including dated data was developped. Architectural measurements, digital scientific documentation were gathered. A historical documentation including restoration acts, used restoration products has been collected. Last, the paintings degradations, up-to-date deterioration patterns description and conservation state diagnosis of these wall paintings including a deterioration mapping are monitored. Results of the physical and chemical analyses of painting, restoration techniques and deterioration products are also integrated. The entire collected and interactive database will be available for conservation managers and researchers within the next three years. [Termes IGN] précision du positionnementRésumé : (Auteur) Existing research on DEM vertical accuracy assessment uses mainly statistical methods, in particular variance and RMSE which are both based on the error propagation theory in statistics. This article demonstrates that error propagation theory is not applicable because the critical assumption behind it cannot be satisfied. In fact, the non-random, non-normal, and non-stationary nature of DEM error makes it very challenging to apply statistical methods. This article presents approximation theory as a new methodology and illustrates its application to DEMs created by linear interpolation using contour lines as the source data. Applying approximation theory, a DEM's accuracy is determined by the largest error of any point (not samples) in the entire study area. The error at a point is bounded by max(|?mode|+M2h2/8) where |?node| is the error in the source data used to interpolate the point, M2 is the maximum norm of the second-order derivative which can be interpreted as curvature, and h is the length of the line on which linear interpolation is conducted. The article explains how to compute each term and illustrates how this new methodology based on approximation theory effectively facilitates DEM accuracy assessment and quality control.
