[Termes IGN] utilisation du solRésumé : (auteur) Robust approaches for image change detection (ICD) are essential for a range of large-scale applications. However, the uncertainties involved in such approaches have not been fully addressed. To investigate this problem, this paper proposes a new approach for change detection from multi-temporal very high resolution (VHR) satellite imagery based on uncertainty detection and management. First, two GeoEye-1 images of Giza urban area (Egypt), acquired in 2009 and 2019, have been geographically co-registered and their histograms have been matched. Second, a set of feature attributes have been generated from the co-registered images. Third, the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm has been adopted to classify the data into four classes: building, tree, road, and ground. In this regard, the co-registered images along with the generated attributes have been applied as input data for the SVM to calculate the probability of each pixel belonging to each class. After that, the probability images for both epochs have been compared to model the uncertainty of changes. The uncertainty places are then evaluated to estimate their likelihood of being change or no change. Finally, the obtained results have been compared with manually digitized change detection map. Compared with using the widely used post-classification comparison (PCC) approach, the results suggest that (1) the proposed method has improved the overall accuracy of change detection by 13%; (2) the class-accuracies have been improved by 35.63%; and (3) the achieved accuracies for the proposed approach are less variable. Whereas the standard deviation (SD) of the accuracies obtained for the proposed approach is 6.80, the SD of those obtained for the PCC approach is 35.50. [Termes IGN] structure-from-motionRésumé : (auteur) Digital terrain model (DTM) generation is essential to recreating terrain morphology once the external elements are removed. Traditional survey methods are still used to collect accurate geographic data on the land surface. Given the emergence of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with low-cost digital cameras and better photogrammetric methods for digital mapping, efficient approaches are necessary to allow rapid land surveys with high accuracy. This paper provides a review, complemented with the authors’ experience, regarding the UAV photogrammetric process and field survey parameters for DTM generation using popular commercial photogrammetric software to process images obtained with fixed-wing or multicopter UAVs. We analyzed the quality and accuracy of the DTMs based on four categories: (i) the UAV system (UAV platforms and camera); (ii) flight planning and image acquisition (flight altitude, image overlap, UAV speed, orientation of the flight line, camera configuration, and georeferencing); (iii) photogrammetric DTM generation (software, image alignment, dense point cloud generation, and ground filtering); (iv) geomorphology and land use/cover. For flat terrain, UAV photogrammetry provided a horizontal root mean square error (RMSE) between 1 to 3 × the ground sample distance (GSD) and a vertical RMSE between 1 to 4.5 × GSD, and, for complex topography, a horizontal RMSE between 1 to 7 × GSD and a vertical RMSE between 1.5 to 5 × GSD. Finally, we stress that UAV photogrammetry can provide DTMs with high accuracy when the photogrammetric process variables are optimized. In this study, influences of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) obtained from different sources, resolutions and rescaling techniques are compared for Peak flow prediction in a large-scale watershed by the Topographic driven model (TOPMODEL). The comparison includes graphical representation and statistical assessments using daily time series data. As a result, DEM extracted from contour map (DEM-Con) showed better performance when DEM resolutions increased, but the Advanced Space-borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (DEM-Aster) continued to achieve less Relative Error (RE) at low resolution. Moreover, better RE values were found at cubic convolution technique to predict the peaks followed by nearest neighbor and bilinear. In addition, this study indicated that DEM resolution is more sensitive factor for TOPMODEL simulation compared to DEM sources and rescaling techniques for streamflow and peaks prediction. [Termes IGN] toundraRésumé : (auteur) Open access airborne laser scanning (ALS) data have been available in Finland for over a decade and have been actively applied by the Finnish archaeologists in that time. The low resolution of this laser scanning 2008–2019 dataset (0.5 points/m2), however, has hindered its usability for archaeological prospection. In the summer of 2020, the situation changed markedly, when the Finnish National Land Survey started a new countrywide ALS survey with a higher resolution of 5 points/m2. In this paper we present the first results of applying this newly available ALS material for archaeological studies. Finnish LIDARK consortium has initiated the development of semi-automated approaches for visualizing, detecting, and analyzing archaeological features with this new dataset. Our first case studies are situated in the Alpine tundra environment of Sápmi in northern Finland, and the assessed archaeological features range from prehistoric sites to indigenous Sámi reindeer herding features and Second Word War-era German military structures. Already the initial analyses of the new ALS-5p data show their huge potential for locating, mapping, and assessing archaeological material. These results also suggest an imminent burst in the number of known archaeological sites, especially in the poorly accessible and little studied northern wilderness areas, when more data become available.
