[Termes IGN] précision géométrique (imagerie)Résumé : (auteur) To date, numerous Earth observation datasets from different types of satellites have been widely used in photogrammetric fields, including urban 3D modelling and geographic information systems. The development of small satellites has provided a new way to obtain repeated observations in a short period. However, compared with that of standard satellite imagery, the geometric performance of imagery from small satellites is relatively poor, restricting their photogrammetric applications. Traditional methods can improve the accuracy of optical images with the addition of well-distributed ground control points (GCPs), which require considerable financial and human resources. The collection of multi-view datasets is an alternative method for geometric processing without GCPs, but relies heavily on the stability and revisit period of satellite platforms. Therefore, this paper presents a framework for improving the geopositioning accuracy of multi-source datasets obtained from optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, and a novel heterogeneous weight strategy is proposed based on an analysis of the geometric error sources of SAR and optical images. The geometric performance of multi-source optical imagery from the Jilin-1 (JL-1) small satellite constellation is evaluated and analysed first, and then Gaofen-3 (GF-3) SAR images are calibrated based on statistical analysis for the production of virtual control points (VCPs). Based on our proposed heterogeneous weight strategy, multi-source optical and SAR images are integrated to improve the geopositioning accuracy. Experimental results indicate that our proposed model can achieve the best performance compared with other popular models, producing an accuracy of approximately 3 m in planimetry and 2 m in height, thereby providing a generic way to synergistically use multi-source remote sensing data. [Termes IGN] semis de pointsRésumé : (auteur) Tree height is one of the most important tree attributes in forest inventory. However, using conventional field methods to measure tree height is a laborious and time-consuming process. Despite the great interest in the past to facilitate tree height measurements, new, upcoming solutions are not yet thoroughly investigated. In this study, we investigated the applicability of different close-range remote sensing options for tree height measurement in a complex lowland deciduous forest. Six sample plots in a pedunculate oak forest were measured in detail using conventional methods. Close-range remote sensing datasets used in this study represent solutions from low-cost sensors used for hand-held personal laser scanning (PLShh), unmanned–borne laser scanning (ULS) and unmanned aerial vehicle photogrammetry (UAVimage). Each tree in the sample plots was interactively measured directly from the point cloud, and correspondence of the field- and remote sensing measured trees was verified using tree positions collected during fieldwork. Cross-comparisons of different datasets were performed to evaluate the performances of different data sources in the tree height estimation with respect to crown class, tree height and species. All remote sensing data sources correlated well, e.g. biases between remote sensing sources were around ± 1%. The field-measured tree height in general correlated well with remote sensing data sources. The uncertainties and bias of the field measurements were dependent on the tree height and crown class. Field measurements tended to underestimate codominant and intermediate trees at the approximately 1 m magnitude, whilst remote sensing data sources were robust to crown classes. Low-cost ULS used in this study, and very likely in general, may not have enough penetration capability when measuring low and mostly occluded trees, causing missed treetops. PLShh gave tree height estimates closer to the real tree height than those derived from conventional field measurements for trees above 21 m height. This issue makes Iran a country that suffers from geotechnical seismic hazards associated with frequent destructive earthquakes. Also, according to the rapid growth of population and demands for construction lifelines, risk assessment studies which should be carried out in order to reduce the probable damages are necessary. The most important destructive effects of earthquakes on lifelines are transient and permanent ground displacements. The availability of the map of the displacements caused by liquefaction, landslide, and surface fault rupture can be a useful reference for researchers and engineers who want to carry out a risk assessment project for each specific region of the country. In this study, these precise maps are produced and presented by using a considerable number of GIS-based analyses and by employing the HAZUS methodology. It is important to note that a required accuracy for risk assessment is approximately around the macro scale. So, in order to produce a suitable map for risk assessment goals, in terms of accuracy, the GIS-based analyses are employed to map all of Iran. [Termes IGN] segmentation sémantiqueRésumé : (auteur) In his classic book “The Image of the City” Kevin Lynch used empirical work to show how different elements of the city were perceived: such as paths, landmarks, districts, edges, and nodes. Streets, by providing paths from which cities can be experienced, were argued to be one of the key elements of cities. Despite this long standing empirical basis, and the importance of Lynch's model in policy associated areas such as planning, work with user generated content has largely ignored these ideas. In this paper, we address this gap, using streets to aggregate filtered user generated content related to more than 1 million images and 60,000 individuals and explore similarity between more than 3000 streets in London across three dimensions: user behaviour, time and semantics. To perform our study we used two different sources of user generated content: (1) a collection of metadata attached to Flickr images and (2) street network of London from OpenStreetMap. We first explore global patterns in the distinctiveness and spatial autocorrelation of similarity using our three dimensions, establishing that the semantic and user dimensions in particular allow us to explore the city in different ways. We then used a Processing tool to interactively explore individual patterns of similarity across these four dimensions simultaneously, presenting results here for four selected and contrasting locations in London. Before drilling into the data to interpret in more detail, the identified patterns demonstrate that streets are natural units capturing perception of cities not only as paths but also through the emergence of other elements of the city proposed by Lynch including districts, landmarks and edges. Our approach also demonstrates how user generated content can be captured, allowing bottom-up perception from citizens to flow into a representation. [Termes IGN] visualisation 3DRésumé : (auteur) By nature, slopes are conformed by forces that are in constant balance. Altering this natural balance causes the sliding of soil towards lower zones. Landslides are a constant danger that compromises the general welfare of society. Landslides mapping is especially important for urban areas or development plans. The innovative aspect of this study is the creation of the Topographic Connection Method (TPCM) to automatically map landslides using two types of landslides 1) falls and 2) flows. TPCM cartography results were compared to a previously proven method (Contour Connection Method), as well as to the manual inventory method. Each method was run four times to locate changes through time by using satellite imagery, digital elevations models and 3D relief visualizations with data covering a period from 2012 to 2017. Results showed both falls and flows with all three methods and demonstrated that TPCM can improve mapping accuracy by up to 14%.
