[Vedettes matières IGN] GénéralisationRésumé : (Auteur) Map generalization is the process of deriving small-scale target maps from a large-scale source map or database while preserving valuable information. In this paper we focus on topographic data, in particular areas of different land-use classes and line features representing the road network. When reducing the map scale, some areas need to be merged to larger composite regions. This process is known as area aggregation. Given a planar partition of areas, one usually aims to build geometrically compact regions of sufficient size while keeping class changes small. Since line features (e.g. roads) are perceived as separating elements in a map, we suggest integrating them into the process of area aggregation. Our aim is that boundaries of regions coincide with line features in such a way that strokes (i.e. chains of line features with small angles of deflection) are not broken into short sections. Complementing the criteria of compact regions and preserving land-use information, we consider this aim as a third criterion. Regarding all three criteria, we formalize an optimization problem and solve it with a heuristic approach using simulated annealing. Our evaluation is based on experiments with different parameter settings. In particular, we compare results of a baseline method that considers two criteria, namely compactness and class changes, with results of our new method that additionally considers our stroke-based criterion. Our results show that this third criterion can be substantially improved while keeping the quality with respect to the original two criteria on a similar level. [Termes IGN] zone urbaineRésumé : (auteur) Worldwide urbanization has brought about diverse types of urban land use and land cover (LULC) changes. The diversity of urban land changes, however, have been greatly under studied, since the major focus of past research has been on urban growth. In this study, we proposed a framework to characterize diverse urban land changes of 30 global megacities using monthly nighttime light time series from VIIRS data. First, we developed a Logistic-Harmonic model to fit VIIRS time series. Second, by leveraging the uniqueness of urban land change and nighttime light data, we incorporated temporal information of VIIRS time series and proposed a new classification scheme to produce monthly maps of built-up areas and to disentangle urban land changes into five categories. Third, we provided an in-depth analysis and comparison of urban land change patterns of the selected megacities. Results demonstrated that the Logistic-Harmonic model yielded a robust performance in fitting VIIRS time series. Temporal features based classification can not only significantly improve the mapping accuracy of built-up areas, especially for regions with heterogeneous built-up and non-built-up landscapes, but also promoted temporal consistency and classification efficiency. Urban land changes occurred in 51% of the built-up pixels of the megacities. Compared with urban growth, other types of urban land change, particularly land use intensification, contributed to an unexpectedly large proportion of the changes (83%). The findings of this study offer an insightful understanding on global urbanization processes in megacities, and evoke further investigation on the environmental and ecological implications of urban land changes. [Termes IGN] trajet multipleRésumé : (auteur) Multipath effects and signal obstruction by buildings in urban canyons can lead to inaccurate GNSS measurements and therefore errors in the estimated trajectory of Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) systems; consequently, derived point clouds are distorted and lose spatial consistency. We obtain decimetre-level trajectory accuracy making use of corresponding points between the MLS data and aerial images with accurate exterior orientations instead of using ground control points. The MLS trajectory is estimated based on observation equations resulting from these corresponding points, the original IMU observations, and soft constraints on the pitch and yaw rotations of the vehicle. We analyse the quality of the trajectory enhancement under several conditions where the experiments were designed to test the influence of the number and quality of corresponding points and to test different settings for a B-spline representation of the vehicle trajectory. The method was tested on two independently acquired MLS datasets in Rotterdam by enhancing the trajectories and evaluating them using checkpoints. The RMSE values of the original GNSS/IMU based Kalman filter results at the checkpoints were 0.26 m, 0.30 m, and 0.47 m for the X-, Y- and Z-coordinates in the first dataset and 1.10 m, 1.51 m, and 1.81 m in the second dataset. The latter dataset was recorded with a lower quality IMU in an area with taller buildings. After trajectory adjustment these RMSE values were reduced to 0.09 m, 0.11 m, and 0.16 m for the first dataset and 0.12 m, 0.14 m, and 0.18 m for the second dataset. The results confirmed that, if sufficient tie points between the point cloud and aerial imagery are available, the method supports geo-referencing of MLS point clouds in urban canyons with a near-decimetre accuracy. [Termes IGN] sismicitéRésumé : (auteur) The Landslide happens in mountainous regions due to the catastrophe of slope through intensive rain and seismicity. The Himalayas is one of the susceptible parts of the world in the perspective of slope catastrophe hazard; i.e., Mass Movement, especially Neelum valley is considerable destruction of community infrastructure, highway, and critically disturbed the tourism segment. Landslide is a common and recurrent phenomenon in the northern mountainous terrain of Pakistan such as District Neelum. After the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, the importance of landslide investigation is increasing. The purpose of this research is to establish a brief landslide inventory and to determine the relationship of landslides with causative factors by spatial distribution analysis. With the aid of Google Earth imageries and field visits, a total of 618 landslides were identified in the study area of 3621 km. These landslide localities compared with causative factors. Finally, distribution maps are generated and analyse their feature class through Digital Elevation Model and ArcGIS. Landslide intensity is calculated in terms of landslide concentration. Landslide concentration (LC) is significantly found very high in slope gradient less than 30 (1.21) and the first 100 m zone around the road network (15.06). A bit higher landslide frequency is noted in east orienting slopes. In the first 100 m, zone road network and drainage networks are 83.49% and 62.78% of the total landslide occurs having LC value 4.6, respectively. The analysis shows that the steep slopes, an area closer to the road network, drainage network, barren lands, and Quaternary alluvium of loose material are more susceptible to landslides. In addition, a landslide classification map is also prepared on the basis of field observation that shows that debris slides are more dominating. [Termes IGN] vulnérabilitéRésumé : (auteur) Suitable route determination for linear engineering structures is a fundamental problem in engineering geology. Rapid evaluation of alternative routes is essential, and novel approaches are indispensable. This study aims to integrate various InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) techniques for sinkhole susceptibility mapping in the Kirikkale-Delice Region of Turkey, in which sinkhole formations have been observed in evaporitic units and a high-speed train railway route has been planned. Nine months (2019-2020) of ground deformations were determined using data from the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Sentinel-1A/1B satellites. A sinkhole inventory was prepared manually using satellite optical imagery and employed in an ANN (Artificial Neural Network) model with topographic conditioning factors derived from InSAR digital elevation models (DEMs) and morphological lineaments. The results indicate that high deformation areas on the vertical displacement map and sinkhole-prone areas on the sinkhole susceptibility map (SSM) almost coincide. InSAR techniques are useful for long-term deformation monitoring and can be successfully associated in sinkhole susceptibility mapping using an ANN. Continuous monitoring is recommended for existing sinkholes and highly susceptible areas, and SSMs should be updated with new results. Up-to-date SSMs are crucial for the route selection, planning, and construction of important transportation elements, as well as settlement site selection, in such regions.
